I want one of these it seems very cool. Does this come with a child to assemble it? or must I supply my own and will those be available anytime soon on woot? We don’t have a local store that stocks children 8-10? Should I look on the mother ship? I hear they have everything

Hey, this thing is terrible. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and found the assembly a little confusing and tedious. I’m marking it up as a bad toy, although I could just be a bad Engineer. The motor assembly needs to be build as well, and if you don’t get the shafts and gears properly aligned and pressed on it the gears won’t move. My 7 year was a little under the age range (we got the thing like a year ago), but he builds 16+ Lego sets with minimal assistance. Once I got the motor assembly turning and hooked it up to the solar panel, nothing happened. From other amazon reviews, it sounds like you need a intense, close light source to get it to move. And who doesn’t look a toy you need to shine a flashlight directly on to get it to move around? Complicated instructions, touchy gear box assembly, and low power from the solar panel makes for a disappointing project.

Weird. Sounds like you need the sun for this solar powered toy.

Yeah, I mean that’s fair. I used solar powered calculators inside back in the day, but those things use hardly any power. We got the toy for Christmas, so sending the kid out in the snow to play with his toy seemed like a bad strategy. Especially when sunshine it’s only sunny a few days a month during the winter months. And the majority of the illustrations show kids inside and the lack of indoor power is only one of the reasons it’s garbage.

The third image, step 3 say test via Sun or with a battery? Does it support batteries? Based on what your saying it doesn’t? Usually solar powered batteries can just be put in a reg recharger (please check the battery type before doing this) if you got no sun. Otherwise I agree with you that if it only works if used in sunlight it’s a bit dumbass.

It has no battery module. You could test it with a battery, but I’m not sure if it needs 9V or 1.5V or something else. And I found the manual online, and that says it will work with the sun or a 50W & up halogen, which is why my LED bulbs were no good, I guess. And it says if you drive assembly doesn’t work, start over, which will be likely. And the manual reminded me that I had to put the drive motor in just right so I didn’t shear off the tiny wires that connect it to the very weak solar panel. In summary, I didn’t like it, in case that wasn’t clear.

I agree with that. I always see them in peoples carts, but none on the shelves.

Everything you described is true, and all are a feature, not a bug. It’s just twenty bucks worth of adventure!

Wall-e! well a knock off version  looks like him a little.
