Smart WIFI LED Strip Lights

Smart WIFI LED Strip Lights

Can these be linked together to increase the overall length?

Looks like for a long strip you’d have put the plug in the middle? :man_shrugging:

After a long strip, who doesn’t want to put their plug in the middle?

There are usually little connectors that allow these to be strung in a longer line and to connect pieces around corners. Not sure about this particular model though.

Read the linked reviews:

This is a great product, it does not come with the connections to join the 2 pieces, you must buy those seperately but the colors are amazing…

They cannot be linked.

These would make for one heck of a bias lighting set up for my monitor. Currently on a bluish-white LED thing.

I’ll admit I’m a bit of a dummy with all but the most basic types of tech…if you cut these strips into pieces
(like on the picture of stairs) how do those separated strips get power?

Are these the same ones for half the price? https://www.amazon.com/Control-Backlights-Million-Bedroom-Halloween/dp/B088D66K7G/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=SHINE+HAI+Smart+WIFI+LED+Strip+Lights%2C+32.8+FT&sr=8-1

Those are the black ones. The white ones from ‘YMYP(US)Seller’ are 39.99.

Take a wild guess which one may be the vendor behind this product.

My guess is they have multiple packages and units. Most of these do not take soldering joints when cut.

Description says “Tape light is cuttable between every 3 LEDs and can be cut to length” and pictures show it being cut.

Well, yeah. They can be cut, but there are only two power/addressable prongs on the end of each roll. That company doesn’t have ‘bendable’ connectors if you go about cutting one roll multiple times and want to splice them together.

You would cut the length you want from the connector to how ever long, and discard everything that is not on the connector terminated piece.

They don’t. You cut off an end that you won’t be using, in order for it to fit better if you have leftover slack. That piece would typically be discarded or recycled.
They just mean its cuttable to your own custom length (if your desired length is shorter). The cut off pieces would no longer work, unless you buy separate connector pieces to re-join them.

What you and modi say makes sense. I suppose it’s just deceptive for them to show that picture where every stair has a strip, but you don’t see any wires/plugs coming off of them. Makes me wonder how anyone would actually achieve that. Sigh…honesty has become too rare.

I looked at these from the Mother Ship when I was shopping for bias lighting for a Sony Bravia 60" TV. Some things to note from my research:

  1. You’ll have to monkey with the saturations and color palette to get a true “white” light that is best for bias lighting. The RBG will work; however, if you’re just looking for bias white, consider the LE RGBW LED Strip Lights, WiFi Smart Waterproof Color Changing LED Strips Works with Alexa Google Home, 16.4ft SMD 5050 LED Tape Light for Bedroom, Home and Kitchen. This one has a “white” mode, in addition to RBG options. For those considering bias lighting, for reference on mine the 16.4’ length had about 14-16" of strip left over if you apply the lights 2-3" from the circumference.
  2. If you go with a light that’s “waterproof”, beware that the strip is a little thicker thus making it harder to make the 90 deg. turns required for bias lighting.
  3. Yes, you can cut them but there’s no way to use the piece that’s leftover from cutting for more lighting. I noticed the same thing in the ad pictures with the stairway lights. Very deceiving. You’d have to do individual lights on each step, each with their own power supply OR run the strip up the corner from one step to the next so you’d have a bright line running vertically between steps. Definitely not what the picture shows.

Can these lights be used on the outside of a vehicle? Can they also be used inside of a vehicle?
