SOG PowerAssist Multi-Tool Price: $49.99 Shipping Options:: $5 Standard OR $10 Two-Day OR $20 One-Day Shipping Estimates: Ships in 1-2 business days (Monday, Jan 16 to Tuesday, Jan 17) + transit Condition: New
My go-to site for this type of item, Field Supply, has it priced at $64.99 so ya, this is a good deal! Their listing also provides some additional information like it’s made of 420 Stainless, is TSA Compliant, etc.
I have this exact setup. I bought it a little over 2 years ago and wear it pretty much every day.
The knife is very sharp, and holds a decent edge for a while.
The tools are useful in a pinch.
The pliers are the best set of pliers I have and use them more often than any other in the garage. That’s by far the most used tool in this set, everything else is at least “good”.
[strikethrough]I highly recommend this at this price.[/strikethrough]
The silver set is almost a buck cheaper over on Amazon after tax and shipping were added here. Also, if you already have Prime, it’s considerably cheaper than if you choose 2-day here.

TSA took my previous one. It was stainless, not black, but somehow I doubt that’s why they took it. When I said, “It’s TSA Compliant” they laughed and said, “I don’t know where you heard that, but no knives are allowed carried on.”
Dicks.

I have no idea how you guys thought this was TSA compliant. There are two freaking knives on it!
What does TSA Compliant mean? You’ll never be able to carry one of these things onto a plane. Although some reseller sites say that you can hand-carry a knife if the blade’s less than 2.36 inches, the TSA site lists all knives as prohibited for carry-on. The only tools allowed are pliers, etc.
This is probably due to some confusion about a proposed rule change back in 2013. The TSA was going to allow knives with blades shorter than 2.36 inches but received a lot of backlash from flight crews, etc. so they backed off on the new rule. In the meantime, manufacturers jumped on the “TSA-Compliant” feature and left it on their advertising and packaging, leading to consumer confusion. Bottom line…if you don’t want to lose your multi-tool, either check it or leave it at home.

They must be hard up for sharp objects. They took my p38 (can opener). Shift supervisor said “would you like someone to come up behind you with this?”. My response was “Well, a trained person can take my military grade pilot sun glasses, break off the ear piece of the frame, stab you in the eye, or shove it in at the base of your skull or in your ear canal and turn you into a sack of potatoes, and you are worried about a small piece of metal that can open a can of tuna. Whats next, the under-wire in womens bra’s?” He wasn’t nor looked amused. He did offer to allow me to take it to baggage check in and have it put on the flight. But I have a bag full of them (got a bunch for my boy scouts for camping), made my point, so I said keep it, it might do you good some day in an emergency. And walked away. That was the first time in 10 or so flights that they finally found it and took it. Yeah, makes me feel safe. A knife, I can understand. But a p38 can opener?
Two things. First, the compound leverage is legit. It allows you to get a serious grip with minimal effort. This makes these about the best multitool pliers out there. Second, you can make this TSA compliant by removing the blades. SOG tools(unlike Leatherman) can be disassembled for cleaning and swapping implements. I ditched the knife blades on my Paratool for a 1/4 adapter. So you can replace the ‘naughty’ implements with approved ones.
Bought this a while back; nice
tool, except that the phillips blade snapped off at the base within a month or two - only the second or third time it was used.
Does anybody here know if the pliers have a spring loaded action? I get that there’s some sort of extra leverage when gripping, but what about opening the pliers? Do the expand on their own, or do you have to manually spread them? I hope I’m making sense.
I love my Leatherman skeletool, but the pliers are awkward to use, at best. Grip, turn, put pinky under handle to spread, repeat.
Anybody who ordered this SOG tool. Are you having trouble putting the tool in it’s case? Mine just does not fit. It fits very tight and is about 1/2in. short of fitting.
