I have the original SoloStove Ranger - backed it on KickStarter several years ago when they were just bringing it out. It is the perfect size for use with our travel trailer - small enough to pack and store away easily, big enough to have a reasonable size fire, and easy to clean when you are done. We let ours burn down and cool off overnight, and at which point there is nothing left but fine, cool ash that can easily be tipped out. SoloStoves are not completely smokeless, but they do “smoke less” (MUCH less) than a traditional campfire. The double-wall design makes this firepit easy to light and burn more completely.
One great thing is that many places will allow you to use a portable firepit like this even in drought conditions because it is completely contained, but always check with the local rangers, forestry service or fire department. The current Ranger v2.0 with stand is on sale directly from SoloStove for $229 ($199 w/o the stand) - the only difference being the new version has a removeable ash pan for easier cleaning. Since I have the original version with the fixed pan I cannot compare the two, but frankly the original is pretty easy to clean so today’s Woot is a pretty good deal regardless.
The description states it has “Removable Ash Pan“. Is this correct?
