Three perfect reviews over at bestbuy.com

Please do yourself a favor and watch the video. It’s hard to forget.

The description says in included 10 regular and 10 large. Then also says a bonus of 5 large and 5 regular. So it looks like you get 30 clips with this order, 15 of each size. I wonder how many you can heat up at once? It looks like just 10 from the images. Anyone know?

This is the Topstyler deal I was waiting for - 10 shells just never seemed like enough! The reviews for this thing are pretty much split between angry 1-stars and thrilled 5-stars, but a lot of people seem to agree that you need more than the usual 10 shells. And apparently it’s really difficult and/or expensive to buy more without just getting another Topstyler. So… yay! TAKE MY MONEY.

This look book nearly sold me last time, but now I’m in.

You can only heat 10 at a time, though they’re supposed to heat fast and people recommended putting a new one in to heat as you took a hot one out. I assume the 10+10 in the item details includes the bonus, but I’d be fine with 20 or 30!

Yes. You can heat ten at a time. The lid is storage for the extra clips – I turn the unit on, lay out ten extra clips, and once the first ten are hot, here’s the routine: roll hair around finger, clamp curl in shell, place cold clip on heating element. New section of hair – roll hair around finger, clamp curl in shell, place cold clip on heating element…

It takes practice to get it right, but once you do, there’s really no other styling tool that gives you quite the same look. And at this price, it’s a STEAL!

It’s a total of 20 clips, it normally comes with 10.

I used mine (from a previous Woot) for the first time yesterday. As a person who usually looks like she just got out of bed, hairstyle-wise, I was concerned about what I was doing to myself as I wrapped and clipped. It took all 20 clips to curl my whole head of hair and I got RAVE reviews from people at the party I attended. I actually had to allow it to relax quite a bit because my hair got SO wavy. That may be just my hair’s reaction but proves that this is the right styling tool for me. At this price I think it’s worth a shot if you’re trying for the advertised look.

We bought these the last time they were offered on Woot. Pleasantly surprised to see that there were more curlers included than just the 10 shown in the pictures at the last sale.

We have curled my daughter’s hair with them twice. She has thick, straight hair that does not maintain a curl well when curled with a curling iron.

The curls she got from the Topstyler looked awesome. We used some kind of pre-treater/heat protectant before starting to curl, and when it was curled, we sprayed them with hairspray. Her hair was very curly when she left the house; by the end of the school day, it had settled into a very pretty wave, which is about as much as we expected.

Topstyler is very easy to use. Since there are 30 shells, as we put a hot one in her hair, we add a cold one into the box. By the time we use up the first 10, the ones we added are hot enough to use.

My kid is very sensitive about heat; she doesn’t like to be blow-dried because she thinks it’s burning her. We have had a couple of instances where she thinks the shells are burning her, and she has to stand in a weird way to prevent the shells from touching her skin. But the outside of the shells is much cooler than the curling iron, so the risk of burning is much less, in my opinion.

To learn to use it, basically the hardest part is just wrapping the hair around your fingers and then being able to slip it off your fingers into the little clamshell. This would be an easy way to burn your fingers, was my initial thought–but it hasn’t been a problem. In short, we have really enjoyed using the Topstyler, and I feel very comfortable about my kid (9 years old, I should have mentioned) using it on her own in the future, since I think the burn risk is pretty low.

Oh, and one other thing…there are 3 sizes of shells, but we use them pretty much interchangeably.

Target has this item with 18 shells for a better price 22.49! Wish I would have checked online before I bought it from woot!

[MOD EDIT: Price comp does not include “BONUS 10 C-Shells”]

This offer at target only includes 5 bonus shells to total 15, which is not enough for my hair, personally. The other three “pieces” are the container and some other tools that I don’t use. Plus, i didn’t go through to shipping costs but I bet it’s more than $5.

Got this on woot a while back and love it. Highly recommend!!

I bought these the last time Woot had them. I have VERY fine VERY straight hair and have tried and used pretty much every hairsetter ever on the market. I ordered these because they looked somewhat different. First, they say your hair should be dry but you should use your “styling product.” I have found that nearly all curling instruments don’tleave much curl on totally dry hair. I don’t usually use styling products because they weigh my hair down. I did leave my hair a bit damp and got a bit of a wave with these, though not significantly better than I would get with any other hairsetter, even using just one finger for the pincurls. Because your hair needs to be damp either with water or product, this may heat damage your hair a bit, ceramic or no ceramic. Hot is hot. Most of us deal with some heat damage to our hair. It also isn’t going to leave your hair any shinier than it was before. My hair has grown again, but it did do a decent job on my medium length hair, just as any other curler would. The curl did NOT last any longer than any other hairsetter has left it. It is convenient because it doesn’t require separate pins to attach the curlers. I never would have paid nearly 100 dollars for it, but the 22 was enough for me to try. Just don’t expect miracles.

I bought these, the last time they came 'round on woot, and they’re awesome.

I have the super-fine, super-straight hair that never holds a curl more than 10 minutes. This item produces soft, firm curl that lasts an entire day. I do have to let them cool completely and to re-clip them, once or twice. The extra clips make this easy.

Received mine today and DID NOT get the extra clips :frowning: I was wanting to use it for a night out this Friday too :frowning: Guess I’ll email Woot and hope for the best…

Sorry you’re missing the extras. Let us know how things work out.

Forgive my ignorance… I never would have imagined the extra clips would have fit under everything else in the top of the box. They were in there! A real PITA to get out, but there none-the-less. Off to email woot again… sorry :frowning:
