Seems like a lot of people have bought it, any feedback, are they any good?
This is obviously my subjective opinion, but I am highly skeptical.
I don’t know about this one in particular, but when I considered a similar product in the past, people in the reviews were laughing at how poorly it worked.
If it’s just the magic intermediary box that’s doing the bulk of the translation, the plastic must contain some decent (unrealistic?) computing power, especially for the price. If an app with back end server infrastructure is doing the translation, then what’s the magic touchscreen box for? It just seems way too good to be true.
If anyone who has one is pleasantly surprised by how well it works, then great ![]()
What is the app that is supposed to be downloaded for translating in real time?
I really dug into this. The QR/URL to the app is very elusive. These headphones are so generic that it’s nearly impossible to find much information on them. The only way I think this can be definitively obtained is by someone posting a photo of the QR code here.
However, I did a reverse image search on the lecture hall photo, which led me to a lot of “translation” headphones under the MerryKing brand. They use this app:
I’m guessing that a similar MerryKing app exists for iOS. The app for this unit in particular may be some variation of it that has been tweaked for branding.
I also found some other interesting info in the process:
Again, using a reverse image search, here is what looks to be the exact same device, but not marketed as having the translation ability:

Here’s a review of a similar product that explains what to expect:

If someone who has bought these can post the QR code or URL for the app, that would clear up this mystery.
There is nothing on the packaging or in the instructions to suggest any translation function whatsoever. These are going back to woot. Also, the right earbud didn’t fully charge. The ANC did keep out my noisy AC, though.
Yeah, these guys (the manufacturer / brand) are scammers. Every time they introduce a new variant that looks like it came from a gumball machine, I post that they’re super sketchy and have a one star app. (AICOOL, not Merryking. They deliberately try to hide which app to use until after the purchase)
