Come’on Woot, this product is a clear violation of 36 USC §176(d), which states that “[t]he flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.”
It’s discussed here:
(Please note: I don’t work for Woot, I just volunteer to help out here on the forums.)
Haha fair enough, appreciate the link. Based on that thread, likely not a violation of the flag code, but still seems disrespectful to me so I’ll be passing.
Thank you for being nice about it. I cringe when this comes up even though I do think it’s pretty.
This is not a flag. It is a throw that resembles a flag. Very clever design choice. Patriotic and practical!
Not crazy about the idea but I get it. Where I do draw the line is “IMPORTED”.
Shouldn’t any USA flag be made here? That includes the tens (hundreds?) of thousands that will be placed in cemeteries, along parade routes, etc this weekend then thrown away to occupy land fill space…
Cheaper to make them elsewhere. Freedom don’t come free, as they say.
They used to make flags in the town where I live. Used to.
This is neither patriotic NOR practical. True patriotism respects Old Glory in all ways. A close facsimile such as this is disgusting as far as I am concerned, having had father and father-in-law in WWII USMC and a brother in the cold war USAF.
Again, I say, disgusting.
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s a duck!
I think you need some refresher civics schooling on the meaning of freedom. That assumes, of course, that you know what civics is and that you were ever schooled in such things.
If you ever wore the uniform, you might have a totally different view about “cheaper to make them elsewhere” implies to me. It’s cheaper to make horse hockey, too.
But it’s not. You can use the likeness of the flag, just not an actual flag
I enjoy the freedom to express my patriotism as I see fit. If that means staying warm with a throw that resembles the flag, I’m free to do so. Of course you’re free to have your opinion and feel offended by my choices, but that is what it means to live in a free society.
So we shouldn’t put flags anywhere on license plates because they get covered in dust/mud while driving, right? What about fireworks packages that exploded or catch on fire when celebrating Independence Day? Probably shouldn’t even use red/white/blue color schemes for shoes because it looks too much like a flag, right?
Where do you draw the line? Remember, it’s a free country.
Oh, snap! I just remembered I have forever postage stamps of the flag. Those probably get roughly handled, dropped on the ground, torn in half, and thrown in the trash. So unpatriotic!
Hi there. You can state your opinion but refrain from making it personal as you did here. TY.
