So the light only turns on when the bottle is closed, and it’s impossible to tell if it’s doing anything. If the light was dead on arrival, how would you know?

Someone asked that on the Amazon page, there’s apparently an indicator light on the outside.

That’s a good question. You can get test strips that show UVC exposure amounts, but I’m not sure how you’d get it in and out of the bottle, and how you’d make sure the dose-detecting side was exposed. I expect you’d normally be shaking the water to exposure any contained biologicals to the UVC during the 3 minute sanitizing cycle. Hard to do that with an exposure card…

Example single-use UVC dosage indicator:

…
uvc dosimeter Cards, uvc Light Test Cards, 100 pcs Single-use uv Card, UVGI Dosage Indicator, uvc Dosage Monitor for uv-c Light, Verify All uvc Light, 253.7nm uvc Detector, uvc Result Visibility https://a.co/d/0LbUIDh
…

Most of the reusable detectors require you to test the exposure in the open (so you can see the “glow” of the UVC sensitive material), still not really useful with this bottle.

It’s it wired to fail when the internal light doesn’t work? Not everyone would engineer it that way.

I guess you could charge it up and see if it lasts 50 cycles but not over 75 cycles.

I haven’t been this confused about things since I tried to catch my refrigerator running the light off when I close the door.

No info about the charger connection? Meh…

Now I’m confused, risk it and get it or skip it and be happy I saved some money?

Maybe I’ll skip it!!!

I purchased this bottle when it was on sale from Mother A. so let me see if I can answer a couple of questions. First, there are several lights on the top which activate when the bottle is properly sealed and the UV cleaning function has started. Well, as an Engineer & skeptic, I wanted to see how it works. So I took a small metal piece, stuck it on the little push button activator on the inside of the screw area of the top. Then push the button on the top and Wala the UV light turned on when it was supposed to and turned off when it should have. So yes, the indicator lights on the top will let you know the UV is working. Also, I found a significantly better taste of the water after using the UV cleaning while it was filled with water. So you can use the UV function for sanitizing the water in the bottle or sanitizing the bottle when it’s empty. If the bottle is not properly sealed/closed then the indicator lights on the top flash purple to indicate the UV light is not working. Where, as the top indicator lights, flash green & blue which indicate the UV light is on and doing its thing.
Charging is done by connecting a micro USB cable which is included, to the micro USB port in the lid. (The other end is USB A.) It is under a little plastic tab.
Having purchased & tried out this bottle versus the Lavone (which was first to the UV Sterilization market) the water taste better from the UVBrite bottle.
My only con of owning this bottle is the small opening on the top. My icemaker makes ice just a little larger than the opening so it’s more difficult to put ice in the bottle. That’s why I also purchased the LaVone water bottle because of its widemouth.
This is a great price from Woot! and like I said I think the water taste better, fresher and stays cold longer from this bottle. But per the instructions you should never use hot liquids in this bottle.

Why does the 5th graphic say it keeps water hot or cold for up to 12 hours if the instructions say to never put hot liquid into it?

Good question. The Lavone Self Cleaning UV water bottle said you could put either cold or hot liquids in it. But this bottle instructions clearly say several times not to use hot liquids. As to why, I don’t know.
