Weird object in sky, took photo.

Hello,

Low on the horizon at around 3am-5am (I live in NH) looking towards the east I’ve noticed a bright orange looking planet or star in the last few months. I’ve always looked to the stars and never have seen this before. Its been there for a few months now, and I just had a nice clear night so I went out @ 4AM and took some shots of the thing. Its very close, and its the last star in the sky that fades out from the suns light. I took this picture with a DSLR camera, its a 4/3 camera. The lens is a 40mm-150mm and I took the shot @ 150mm 4.5f/s shutter speeds ranged from 500-1200, the camera was completely still on a tripod, and these photos were taken quickly one after another. I have many more photos, an when you look at them in order it looks as if it is pulsating light, and almost morphing or what kind of looks like things shooting off it. I’m hoping it stays clear tonight, to get more photos. Anyone up around then should check it out, its an interesting thing, and you don’t need the best equipment to get some cool shots.

This photo has been zoomed and cropped as well, but other than that this is completely original. Whatever it is, its very large, and bright, and I don’t think its Mar, Jupiter or Venus since its stuck around for so many months. Either way its a cool object to look at and its very close. It also looks like you can see the curvature of the object when its not bright.

Many reports seem to suggest Venus.

I certainly hope it is! otherwise it’s time to contact Will Smith to save the planet. he he he

very cool pics by the way - thanks for sharing them!

There was a really bright star near the moon the other night.
That usually is Venus.
The newspaper use to have a little square with astromony stuff. I think it was taken out.
That is how I knew stuff like that.

I keep seeing the one near the moon as well, but this is not the one near the moon, so its not venus. Interesting to say the least. I’ll see if I can get out there tonight and take some shots of the one near the moon and see how that comes out.

Have you noticed the one near the moon changes spots every night? One night it was bottom left of the moon. The next night it was to the top and right side of the moon. The next night it was down to the right of the moon and then back over to the left. I’m going outside to check it out actually.

Say you are facing the moon and that is 12 o clock, the thing from this picture is about 8-9 o clock in the sky, further down on the horizon. I can only see it from 2:30ish-5:30-6AM. Its always the very last thing in the sky to get faded out by the sun. Its also larger and more orange than the thing next to the moon. If Venus is next to the moon, I wonder if this is Jupiter. Mars isn’t this big, but I remember seeing these planets coming and going, I never remember them in my life being visible every night for months and months.

Either way its fun to check out. I wish more things reported on this stuff.

EDIT: Checked it out about 2 hours ago, and its really weird, it was no where near the moon tonight, it was off the right side and if the moon was 12 o’ clock it was about 2 o clock and far away from the moon. Every night its in a new spot, but always around the moon, first time I’ve seen it like that.

Space station?

That would be cool… I misplaced my camera’s battery charger. I have two dead batteries here and no way to charge them. I moved a bunch of things around last weekend and moved out a bunch of electronics I stored in my closet, and I’m afraid it accidentally went with them.
