What's worse?
I live with constant pain. You ever had poison ivy… down South? Let me tell you, you’ll pick pain, too!

On a serious note, I haven’t heard of people asking for end of life assistance for severe itch. For severe and chronic pain, I have seen/heard of. (If you’ve ever seriously injured parts of your body like your back, nothing comes close to the pain you can experience.)
I cannot imagine poison ivy there. My wife is very reactive to ivy and oak. She gets it bad with itch and pain. While I have allergies to other things, I’ve never had a reaction to anything while busting through the woods. I count that as a blessing.

As well you should. I have never had any reaction before this year. I could roll around in it and be just fine. The first time I get a bad reaction… well… yeah. Your time is coming, my friend!
Why not itch and pain? Isn’t it a worse combination?
Pain can just keep getting worse in a way that itching can’t match. Pain is also a very broad term that covers many different types and levels of pain.
Getting older and pain just is there.
Itch is always wanting attention and grows if you pay it attention.

Having experienced both to unexpected extremes, pain is nearly always worse, but itching can be maddening when you scratch yourself to the point of bleeding and the itching still doesnt subside.
As someone that has a condition that causes daily pain, had serious injuries causing pain, and dealt with extreme itching (can’t say enough about Dupixent), itching is worse. I’ve learned to push pain aside mentally. There’s nothing you can do about constant, relentless itching all over.
Itching…. It’s a constant pain that grows the more you scratch, causing bleeding… open marks…and swelling with heat, and it can move all over your body making you look crazy if it gets aggressive in multiple places at once…
It’s just another form of pain though, an unrelenting one…
Pain you can distract from. Itch keeps going. Sometimes itch turns into pain. Now I’m itchy.

If only I could scratch away pain ![]()

Pain is relentless, itchy is annoying.

The intense pain from a bulging disc impinging on my spinal cord was something I hope to never experience again in my life. Left me with huge respect for physical therapy.
Pain every time. Itching is annoying, but can usually be ignored or handled easily. But a bulging disc, 2 herniated discs, 2 synovial cysts attached to both the sciatic nerve sac and spinal column, and a kidney stone have all shown that pain can get really bad. Fortunately all of those were at separate times, but I don’t mess around with pain. I’m almost 31 with the back and leg pains of a much older man. Out of all those, I don’t want to experience a kidney stone ever again, I thought I was dying. I was in so much pain and looked so bad that the clinic I went to thought I was in septic shock. I wouldn’t wish a stone on anyone.
