Why does it not ship to California?
(Please note: I don’t work for Woot, I just volunteer to help out here on the forums.)
This thing is awesome. I just bought one for a lot more than this from the big red lettered store that makes you show your receipt at check point Charlie to exit. It’s an amazing air filter. If you’ve got some bad air in a room
Then jump on this deal. I’m considering ordering a couple more of these refurbs from woot! Note…. Mine is not a refurbished unit, but there isn’t a lot that can go wrong with these, so I expect refurbs are just as good as the first run version.
Word of warning: TURN OFF THE PLASMA WAVE FUNCTION!!
It can actually be dangerous for your health. With it turned off though, this is a perfectly fine purifier
I also disable this feature and many reviewers seem to agree it does very little, so why risk it.
Many will rightfully point out it’s been tested and passed by CA standards.
I like the C545 and the only thing that I like more than it is the 5500-2. The C545 has a very small amount of carbon filtering, way less than anyone should even consider enough to consider it a carbon filter. The 5500-2 has way more carbon in their filtering media and it’s probably the best sub $300 air purifier that’s been tested.
The 5500-2 also has a pretty impressive air quality monitor for detecting decreases in air quality. Now there is no output outside of an LED color but red is bad quality, amber is low quality and blue is high quality. With the fan on max speed if someone would pass gas in a 20-foot radius of the unit, it will immediately go to red within 10 seconds. Though I have notice that my baby dropping bombs in her diaper has not set the unit off from 5 feet away so maybe I need to see a doctor.
If you’re serious about carbon filtering this DIY project is a way better solution just due to it’s effectiveness of being a carbon filter. DIY "Activated Carbon" Air Purifier! The "5 Gal. Bucket" All-Odor Air Cleaner! ~ smoke, smog, fumes - YouTube
Any serious plant grower knows how effective carbon filters can be at removing smells. Also super useful during wildfire season or if you live in a low air quality city.
C545 regularly goes on sale @ Costco for $99 new WITH an extra set of filters.
In for 2 for my parents.
Thank you.
Thats kind of odd of them. Amazon ships that same kind of filter to me. But Woot which is owned by Amazon doesn’t.
I live in Northern California and just paid $100 online from Costco for the exact same one and had it shipped with no problems. I can’t understand why they can’t ship this.
Oddly enough, in the same thread:

I purchased one of these things the last time it was on woot. No problems, I regularly vacuum the filters due to massive amounts of dog hair. I do find it amusing that whenever my wife walks into the bedroom, the sensor lights change from green to yellow…
While dozens of reputable sites state otherwise…
I also do not understand why this is on a do not ship to CA list. In fact, I purchased two of these on previous Woots and had them shipped to CA without issue.
Woot team, can you please let us know why this is on the blacklist for CA? Its important for us to know if there is a safety issue to be aware of.
Found this, which is probably the reason. Article is from 2017 but looks relevant to this issue.
It seems like Amazon just has problems with their database of allowed purifiers for some reason. I guess people have had this problem for years on and off and it continues to happen. Oh well.
I bought one of these from woot last year and one at a big box store for $99 on sale early this year. The big box one came with two filters which is a good deal if you are going to order OM parts. But you can find compatible filters for $15-20 each. No problems with the refurb or new.
