Wolfgang Puck Electric Grill/Griddle

3.5/5 stars on Amazon and only 2 reviews. Hrm.

I wonder if this would replace a Foreman and a regular electric griddle? It would be great to condense my kitchen appliance list.

I own an electric griddle. It gets way more use than I ever expected. Once you go from making 1-2 pancakes in a pan to making 8 at a time on a griddle… there’s no turning back.

Also, Alton Brown made a whole Good Eats episode dedicated to the griddle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wdjqXnixIY

It’s fairly easy to clean. Only complaint is that when you turn it to max (400F) it starts to smoke

I own one of these (cooked dinner on it tonight, in fact). I don’t have a lot of experience with these sorts of grills/griddles, but it does cook well. Can be a bit difficult to clean when it builds up a few layers of residue. Otherwise gets the job done - both the grill and the griddle work well.

Other versions on Amazon have more reviews (44) and better stars (4.5), for example: http://amzn.to/zD6IaJ.

er, you mean the electical stuff and such inside starts to smoke?

or what?

I feel as if there is something distinctly “Man” oriented about a griddle.

I’ve tried to pursuade my wife that we should get one in the past, but am always shot down because of how big the things are and how we shouldn’t get something that will fill up the small apartment kitchen we have. I’ve tried time and again to make the case, but she’s never been sold on the idea.

Oh, and I totally agree about the “Wolfgang Puck sounds like a boxer name” thing. It actually took some convincing of a friend that the dude was a chef and not a guy in the heavy weight division.

1800w, so this will get hot faster and be better capable of maintaining the temperature.

Just don’t run any other appliances at the same time on the same circuit. 14.4 amps … in older homes, 15 amp circuits are typical; even newer homes have just 20 amp circuits.

I have this griddle and it is the best I’ve ever owned. However, the price here online is what I bought it for at CostCo a few months ago so not a very good deal.

Those de-greasing, scraping tools are so fun to use! :3

This definitely would NOT replace my Foreman as the Foreman cooks both sides at the same time. On these electric griddles, you do have to turn the meat over once and continue cooking. Sure, these do have a great place in the kitchen, but I wouldn’t get rid of my Foreman grill.

GF grills are heated on both sides, so food tends to cook faster and more evenly.

A flat griddle/grill like this is best as supplemental, not a replacement.

(So say the guy with too many kitchen appliances, at least. I have an older T-fal that can also do double duty like this.)

Well, darn. From the thumbnail, I thought this was some fancy file organizer and got happy (I’m very OCD). But a Wolfgang Puck griddle is nice too! $50 for anything with that man’s name on it is a good price.

My calculator says 1800w @ 120v = 15amps.

My electric company provides 117volts, not 120, so… 1800w @ 117v = 15.38 amps

Just in-case any of you want to figure out the above in the future.

You will find a lot of ratings are actually based at 125 volts. 15 amps = 1875 watts.

Kitchen Wiring Circuits

I think i’m taking the plunge and buying one…i have a grill from overstock and the lid broke but this one looks way superior and i just LOVE WOOT products.

OH MY GOD!!!
An Electric In-Box!
I’m in for 3!

It can’t be a real 1800W. My 2003 home only has 15A circuits and the outlets will overload before that. You never get a real 120V. 115 to 117V is closer to reality. And as you pointed out, if this really was 1800W then you need to make sure nothing else is running on the same circuit.

They took the 1800 number from the same people that sell crap with USB 2.0 is 40X faster becuase it can run at 480 mbps. yeah good luck running your 25 mbps HD movie over your 300 mbps wireless-N. Lotsa headroom and no chance of stuttering.

Sorry, A real 1800W draw will send you to your “fusebox” to switch the breaker. With the wolfgang puck moniker and 1800W on the label I think I should stay away.
