If there was ever a device that would benefit from an extended warranty, it was this. It’s not a matter of if something on this controller will break, it is a matter of when.
Search forums, reddit… hell, search Microsoft’s own support site for literally just the word “bumper” and you’ll find nothing but literally years of reports of problems related to the Left and Right bumpers on the Elite and Elite 2 controllers.
That said, this is listed as coming with a one year warranty from Microsoft, and they are good about sending out replacements in that first year.
This is a different controller than the elite pro 2. The Pro 2 is a hot dumpster fire of a controller. When it works, it is great, but they never work for more than 6 months. You can google the reviews to verify. I wouldn’t spend 20 on a pro 2.
The CORE is the new version, I am not sure if they fixed the issues, but this looks like a repacked pro 2 with none of the the extra’s the elite gives you (extra buttons and paddles). Reviews on are not good this controllers either. To bad, with a little QC, this could be a great controller.
I got an open box Elite with paddles for $68 from another site. (probably not a series two) I tried using it with the paddles, but any button I would want to map to the paddle button would just cause me problems during the game because I’d accidentally press it too often. Made it unpredictable and unreliable. I liked mapping D-pad or joystick click functions to the paddles. Alas, I have removed the paddles and don’t use them. Maybe my hands are too big…
I didn’t find the adjustable triggers very helpful. You can set it to have a short trigger pull for a snappy trigger finger in FPS games, but the problem is most FPS games also include elements wherein you’d want to have variable trigger pull controls such as driving a vehicle. (squeeze a little to go slow)
Oh, I also had an issue with the triggers sticking due to the rubber pad in there. I had to put a piece of tape over the pad so the triggers didn’t stick.
Not worth $100 in my opinion.
It takes a day or two to get used to it and then you’ll never touch it accidentally again.
I have a turtle beach react-r wired that I got for $22 @ Amazon used. It works tho I’d have to go wireless if I had a console. The Xbox elite controllers are always so pricey! Still hanging onto my two dualshock 4s, though. Just every game uses Xbox layout for controller on PC!
These new cheap analog covers are pretty good if anyone is into these. Wish they were concave, tho. I just got these to try the new design over the old silicone slip overs. These are much better! Theyre more of a rubber material than slippery silicone.
$3.75 for 10 (5 pair)
