Monster vice, I bought it last time. It is very well built and worked very well the couple times I used it!

I installed it with 2 huge lag bolts on one side into the double 2x4 frame on the side of the table it is in and into the other side with large, long bolts with a 2x4 under the table for more support. It’s not going anywhere…

Is it Cast steel the cast-iron? Harbor freight sells one just like this, but it’s made of cast iron and it breaks.

from Yost Vice site:
“750-E, 5” Medium Duty Rotating Vise

Cast iron construction (30,000 PSI tensile strength)
5" Jaw Width
3" Pipe Jaw Capacity
5" Jaw Opening
Head of Vise rotates a full 360 Degrees
360 Degree Swivel Base with Dual Lockdowns"
Price: $175.00
From Amazon Questions"
Yost 750-E is medium duty and the Yost 750-DI 5 is heavy duty. And there is about a 50.00 price difference. The Yost 750-DI is the most rugged rotating vise on the market. Unlike other rotating vises, the 750-DI is cast from Heavy Duty 60,000 PSI Ductile Iron"

Per dealnews: Walmart offers the Stalwart 4.5" 270-Degree Swivel Table Vise for $22.99. Opt for in-store pickup to avoid the $5.99 shipping charge. That’s tied with last month’s mention and the lowest price we could find by $23. This portable vise clamps to any surface and features a 4.5" jaw opening.
My “AD VISE”.

I know what you mean , I made the mistake of getting a cast iron one, admittedly not this size but it broke in to with very little abuse.

Most bench vises are cast iron; how strong/durable it is depends on the quality of the iron and the casting process. Yost seems to be a well-regarded brand in vises, and those Horror Fright vise reviews are rife with mention of poor-quality ancillary parts (loose/stripped clamping screws, etc.) not to mention their propensity to crack.

Forged vises are stronger, but apparently only come in one basic configuration and cost at least double vs. cast; a Google search didn’t turn up any such thing as a forged vise with a horizontally-rotating head like this.

If you want the versatility of this configuration, looks like you’ll be getting cast iron no matter what AFAICT, so pick a reputable brand and compare reviews.
