There are two positive points to this listing:
- It’s new - Not just a refurbished unit (No problems with refurbs, except when they’re priced too high)
- 24GB of VRAM is killer if you want to run local ML/AI like stable diffusion
Beyond those points, I can’t see a $830 asking price for a graphics card that is now just about four years old (2020Q3) as being practical or a good value…
Several newer models have supplanted this for most gaming uses in the last few years. The RTX 4070 Ti Super, despite having a dumb name, is a much better deal. Several variants can be had new for $800, plus a game (Star Wars Outlaws is the current promo). You only get 16GB of VRAM, and the architectural changes do make it hard to compare things like core counts, memory bandwidth, etc… But the newer card is pretty trim, draws quite a bit less power, and just outperforms this venerable 3090 by a decent margin in both RT and raster workloads.
My sample chart isn’t the exact board partner models here, but it’s pretty representative of the fact that this is NOT the best choice for the money, for most people. There will be a few odd use cases (like the generative AI engines) that will do better on this card. But for a vast majority, just get the newer, faster, more efficient card.
*And for those who want to save a buck, and still come close to the performance, the RTX 4070 Super trims the price, but nips at the heels of the 3080 Ti and 3090. Or there are deals on AMD’s 7900XT (or XTX, for the high rollers), if you’re a fan of “Team Red”, or just want more raster, and less RT.
Love ya, Woot. But this one doesn’t look very compelling to me, at all. And I was one of the crazies who bought a 3090
Why is it listed with a 90 day woot warranty? Does this not have a new Zotac warranty?
Hi there. we’re not an authorized reseller for them so they may not honor the warranty. We’re giving them a Woot warranty instead.
I can’t imagine dropping that kind of money and only getting a 90 day warranty.
