Before anyone thinks “it’s entry level” because it’s “only an i3”, there has been substantial improvements in performance in just the last couple years thanks to competition from AMD. In just 3 years, this 13th gen i3 at a 15w TDP surpasses the performance of a high-end 10th gen i7 and nearing the 10th gen i9 at a 45w TDP.

It’s still entry level because it’s 1080p, 8GB…honestly would probably be a decent laptop for a student entering a non-creative/design college course, or anyone looking for a new replacement for their aging Windows 7 or 10 laptop.
Most of the world isn’t spending a ton of time agonizing over nits or if the ram is upgradeable etc.

had to do a double take and spend extra moments making sure i knew whats what. :face_with_monocle: fix it Woot!

Looks to be a 14". I’ll ask to get it fixed. That “Screen Size” attribute is just used for CA recycling taxes.

How “used” or “damaged” is it if it’s been refurbished? My 16 yo needs a laptop

And to build off of that, its single-thread score – which for a lot of people is going to be something you feel much more in day-to-day use – is actually higher than both. It’s worth noting, though, that these newer Intel chips use heterogeneous core configurations, so in this case you’ve got 2 “power” cores with hyperthreading enabled, and 4 “efficiency” cores that lack hyperthreading. All that means is that you have a “6-core” chip on paper that can handle 8 simultaneous threads, which is still no slouch; however, that single-thread score is likely skewed towards the “power” cores, so even though it boasts a nice Passmark score and a nice single-threaded score, you’re only getting that power on half of your available threads.

I don’t have any personal experience with these, but on paper it looks like a nice laptop for $300. It also looks like there are 2 non-soldered memory slots, so you can at least double the available RAM as a modest upgrade. HP says the maximum RAM is 16 GB, which is kind of a bummer but plenty for most folks, especially at this price.

Thank you so much! Sounds good.

Bought this and the wifi is defective… Waiting on woot customer service to answer. It uses a realtek wifi card. Even after updating all drivers and OS, the wifi card will randomly drop connection and the laptop will stop recognizing it until it is rebooted.
