@Woot have you considered offering any store credit for those of us who bought this same thing at $32.99 and $29.99 earlier this year? Would really be appreciated.
We’re offering them based on the prices that we can get them. Prices were much higher earlier in the year.
Do these have the adjustable nose piece in them?
Without knowing if they have the nose piece for sure I’m going to pass on these.
Hi there. We’re helping Amazon clear out some PPE inventory so we don’t have eyes on these. We’ve asked for a “bin check” at the Amazon warehouse but that can take a few days sometimes.
Update: So the Amazon warehouse associate didn’t help us much. We got a photo of the outside of the package that said nose clip is plastic with iron. We’re not sure what that means so our buyer is going to order a set.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Ok, so what they have is an external plastic nose clip. The buyer says it doesn’t fit quite as tight as the other clips but the quality for the price is pretty nice.
They all have that metal piece
“* This mask is not intended for medical use, and not proven to reduce the transmission of disease.” I can agree with that and that’s why I have never worn a mask, except a N-95 one in a grain bin.
Thank you for your kindness and consideration
The flood is real. The choice of whether or not to get on the boat is ultimately yours. Just know that the moment the doors close, you are on your own. Best wishes to you and yours.
For $7 this is not a bad deal at all. In for a couple I think because we’re all wearing masks for another year. At least.
@Ed3rd… while the flood is real would you rather have someone strap a life vest that will do nothing but take on water and sink you to the bottom, or be left bare and able to swim or tread water? That is the point mikeeyram was making. If the mask does nothing then it makes no sense to wear it unless you just enjoy pretending to be safe while spewing viruses all over the place and sucking in viruses spewed out by others.
“You don’t throw up your hands if you think a mask is not 100 percent effective. That’s silly. Nobody’s taking a cholesterol medicine because they’re going to prevent a heart attack 100 percent of the time, but you’re reducing your risk substantially.”
-Peter Chin-Hong, MD, infectious disease specialist at UCSF
These are the worst face masks on the planet!! I’m returning them. You’d be better off walking into a store wearing nothing at all. They are so flimsy, loose, and do not make flush contact with your face. I feel air coming in like I am wearing nothing at all. TERRIBLE!!
I’m really sorry, I couldn’t stop myself. Thanks for the heads-up.
I think anyone with a brain would put more faith in the Danish study that was actually conducted on real people with real masks to determine if they provided any benefits, instead of the opinion of a couple of narcissistic doctors that were just spouting off BS to get a few minutes of airtime. The Danish study was peer reviewed not like your little People magazine style blog.
Thank you, Thomas. I read the study you linked to. I’m sorry you feel threatened/defensive (referring to the comment, “anyone with a brain”). That was not my intention.
The article from the University of California San Francisco referenced this study fyi: https://files.fast.ai/papers/masks_lit_review.pdf (literature review of 96 evidence-based studies)
Unfortunately, the Danish meta-analysis was fraught with confounding variables, study limitations, & external validity concerns (much like any study, really).
-
study used antibody tests (increased risk of false positives)
-
low compliance among study participants: “only 46% of participants wore the mask as recommended, a very low adherence level.“
-
No source control: “the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection through the respiratory route is very high specially at home, at lunch and coffee-break times, where nobody uses any mask protection. In this randomized open trial, there was no control over these sources of infection.” And, there was no assessment about whether masks can diminish the risk of transmission from infected people to others around them.
Dr. Henning Bundgaard, professor of Cardiology at Rigshospitalet in Denmark stated in an interview through Forbes, “Even a small degree of protection is worth using the face masks.”
Most importantly though, the study states, “The findings, however, should not be used to conclude that a recommendation for everyone to wear masks in the community would not be effective in reducing SARS-CoV-2 infections, because the trial did not test the role of masks in source control of SARS-CoV-2 infection.”
Ultimately though, even a small risk reduction among a pandemic that has proved deadly is enough for me if it could save lives, but I respect if it is not for you.
I bought some of these cheap masks early on, and found they work well IF you have the time to fix them up. Biggest issue is the ear straps aren’t bonded very well (as many as one-in-five or so will pull loose) - a very small amount of superglue fixes that (50 masks = 200 glue dots).
Next, yeah, the nose-piece doesn’t hold its shape; no biggie if you don’t wear glasses to fog up. Amazon sells the self-stick metal nose pieces, adds maybe a penny per mask; they do significantly improve the seal and block air gaps
The best thing to know is you can double/triple the functional protection of ANY masks in several ways. A spring-loaded scungie hair clip to bring ear-straps together behind your head will pull the mask tight and seal around the edges. And/or you can wear a gaiter (cloth tube, pulled over your head and covering the mask, optimally with ear-holes to hold position) to get the same improved seal and add a little filtering. In cold weather this works even better.
Most people probably prefer to save the time, and pay more. For people who make their own soup, these masks are great starter ingredients to build on.
Well you continue to try and dump on the truth by cherry picking things out of context, not surprising. If you were honest you wouldn’t have even brought up the 46% figure as the results showing the masks were pointless excluded the non-compliant people in the test. But hey, why would you start being honest when it would mean you were admitting you were full of crap to begin with.
I hope ur not serious. And I really hope that u understand that it’s not just about u… It’s about everyone- the whole world.
Personally, if I didn’t have a mask but absolutely HAD to go out in public for some reason, I would literally take off one of my socks and wrap it around my face if it meant potentially saving the life of even 1 person.
In the unlikelihood of “nobody” knowing…
if u don’t have a mask because u ran out, can’t afford one or u were being picky… a scarf or bandana even if it’s “cheap” is better than nothing… Don’t believe it? Just ask the CDC.
Now if you’ll excuse me… I’m feeling a bit nauseous after reading some of these comments and might just need to make a run for it…
