These are what’s known as a NES-on-a-chip. They are incredibly weak devices that play broken games from the late '80s because there is no quality control on the ROMs that are on the device. Not worth your money.
Thanks for the tip! Wanted to play pokemon not brokemon!
Thanks for reconfirming my gut instincts…I almost was almost suckered into buying this for my son. He keeps thinking he wants this junk.
It’s also totally legal and the manufacturers of these systems are well-known for going out to the developers of each of the 400 games on the system and ensuring they have properly secured the rights to reproduce the games here.
Guys for this price you buy a emulator app for any android device (hell for that price you can buy several emulator apps). Many are regualrly supported and run incredibly well. Several even offer software based enhancements and ur choice of bluetooth connected controllers.
If you really wanted to roll the dice on one of these, they’re around $11 on AliExpress.
They are about $8 on Temu. Takes about 2 weeks to get. I have one - it’s… OK. Most games are playable but some are just broken. For $8 it’s worth it. For $20, not so much.
Ya these emulators come from a wide variety of random brands and are definitely running hacked ROMs for legal reasons. Some of them come with microSD cards (TF Card) which you can use to add or remove ROMs. But the emulation isn’t always good, you can also install custom Linux OS on some of them. A list can be found here
A solid handheld emulator would be the RetroidPocket with Lineage OS. That can run up to PS1 games. Just gotta remember it’s a handheld. But some of them are expensive and they actually have good D-Pads, buttons, analog sticks, and screens.
I have an Anbernic RG-99 with OpenDingux and a ton of GameBoy ROMs. The emulation is ok. Plays a lot like a gameboy would, just with a backlit screen. It can also play NES and that stuff, but I mainly use mine for Gameboy games. Haven’t messed with it in forever tho xD
This is likely a model that comes as is with no extended storage, tho. This 400 game version can be found all over the net usually with “Sup” written on it for like $12 or something. Might have to wait 3 weeks to get it tho. They are just handheld emulators. Mostly repurposed electronics running very basic android or Linux operating systems designed for emulating ROMs.
What would be cool is if they got some of the Pandora’s Box style emulators. They are full size arcade gamepads with storage on them and HDMI out. It plays arcade and neo geo games, some of them have 2 players on the gamepad as well.
It’s a legal grey area but wouldn’t that be neat if Woot got some “Soulja Game’s” also " hacked ROMs " is a term for slightly adjusted copies of original games. They include sprite (graphics) swapping things like your character from other titles on the same console. It makes for insane mash ups like the legend of Mario , etc. Tho some of them are pretty much original copies, they make sure to change some things to make it their own lol. Usually is the same exact levels, enemies, puzzles , etc. it can also mean ROMs that have been modified to include cheat menus, increased or decreased game difficulty, etc
I couldn’t care less about the legal aspects of this, but I would like to add that for most of these emulators, the quoted number of games included is HIGHLY overinflated. You usually have a small subset of unique titles (maybe 30 to 60) with the rest being duplicates to fill out the total. If you like old games and you don’t want to (or are not capable of) building your own emulator, then these are not a bad way to go… so long as you know exactly what you are getting.
Yea I suggest emulators with storage so that you can use your own ROMs. They definitely duplicate a bunch
Temu uses slave labor from the Uyghur people in China.
Also, this “console” has a lot of repeat games many of which are pretty terrible quality. Don’t get this console for anyone anywhere.
Awesome games like…
Superior Plumber Friends
Marginal Man
The myth of Zeldario
Alley Puncher
and many more
There ARE good ones out there and that’s probably what he wants. This one just happened to be trash.
Check out this channel and device instead. They aren’t that expensive for what they do and are quite capable little devices.
I picked up an ATGames Legends Ultimate a few months ago… it’s been fun. And it does actually have quite a variety of games on it. Mostly Atari 2600, and the arcade versions of those, plus some Sega and others. It was a lot more than this, and takes up a lot more space, but being able to play the legit games I grew up on has been great.
Also, pretty sure I saw a whole end cap of these exact units at a local big box store for $9.98 the other day.
They need to pop some of these in some BOC’s for sure.
I bet people would have more fun with them if they were “free”
A free lunch always tastes better than one I pay for… LOL
This looks like a good game. I like the graphics. Its clean.
I mean those that use raspberry pi can have it easy all in one via ArcadePunks iso
I had a small display that housed a raspberry pi in the back, and some wireless 2.4GHz controllers. A decent ArcadePunks iso on a microSD makes it almost too easy.
Still want a custom cabinet one day. We had one at my old work that was awesome with really nice buttons and all that. I almost did this project back in the day but just didn’t ever go for it before I forgot.
I’m still a big fan of RetroidPocket for a handheld
You are correct, and regardless of being legal. They are garbage.
