I wouldn’t pay $5 for this. Websites constantly crash, requiring full attention for the basic function of web browsing for basic articles. I purchased one on the mothership new and am utterly blown away at the lack of ability to stay on a website to cook a recipe with.
Humm, never had any problems. I own various Fire tablets and love them.
Also have had great experiences with Refurbished and Scratch & Dent Fire tablets.
yeah i’ve never experienced that, try resetting wifi
Does anyone know what Grade C scratch and dent means? I have bought scratch and dent with no problems but have never seen Grade C.
Below is a link to the Woot item condition glossary.

I’ve had three now. One refurbished S&D, one refurbished like new, and one new. Every single one has had issues with “website not responding” every five minutes while cooking.
@alexandersespinosa I tried so many things I gave up and now I have a Samsung I’m borrowing. Zero issues.
I bought the 2019 Amazon 10 version a while back - absolutely no issues - looks new. Installed Google play easily. My 83 year old mother uses it for web browsing, reading and Facebook. Isn’t sluggish nor does it crash. Is it as fast as our new iPads? Of course not. But for the price and what it is still great value.
Interesting. Amazon has sold tens of thousands of the things. Odds of getting three bad ones in a sample size of three must be astronomical.
I bought one for my mother, as an upgrade to a smaller tablet. She is the most… If anyone, anywhere paid for a thing and she uses it, she expects it to be perfect - and her only real complaint has been that it’s difficult to hold with one hand (crippling arthritis). She insisted I buy a second one for myself, so that if she does encounter an issue or wants me to talk her through doing something new on hers over the telephone, I’ll be able to duplicate what she’s seeing/doing exactly.
She uses audio and video streaming apps, and plays a Solitaire suite (multiple game types). I had to install “the Google stuff” on it for the latter, which is a bit of a resource suck on a device with little RAM. She has had no problems (I’d have heard - repeatedly).
I had originally assumed that I’d be ignoring mine most of the time; but then I decided I would try to get my money’s worth. So I did the usual recommended Amazon tablet setup thing (ran Fire Toolbox on my laptop
). Added the Google stuff. I read ebooks and magazines from several sources via the Kindle, Hoopla, and Libby apps. Lots of video streaming/downloads via various apps. Ditto for audio streaming/downloads. A lot of web access, too, because the tablet always seems to be within arms reach, while the laptops and desktop might not be. As a rule, I try to remember not to have more than four to six tabs open at the same time. I don’t have that many games installed. Some card games, some word/etc. puzzle games, some (okay, plus some more) text adventure games e.g. Infocom style, a couple of racing games, and some roguelike games (think “Nethack,” although one is more advanced).
My biggest complaint? I don’t like the default virtual keyboard app, and keep forgetting to install Gboard. But it works fine in handwriting mode (cheap stylus or finger). And the device connects to and uses my Logitech and generic Bluetooth keyboards. Also my speakers, earbuds, and wireless Xbox type game controller.
The device isn’t very powerful, but it’s okay. Battery capacity exceeded my expectations. The display is great for the price, and actually fine when not considering the price. Speakers (two) are okay although not capable of great volume. But I have a good Bluetooth speaker - and if that’s not enough, my home stereo speakers can blow out a Bic lighter so no worries. It can multitask with two apps on the display simultaneously, but it’s nowhere near as capable as a top tier Samsung tablet. That’s somewhat limited by the RAM, but I can type in one app whilst watching a video in another. The amount off RAM is really the only negative, IMHO; I’d prefer six gigabytes. But I’d prefer a 4K resolution OLED display, linux in a dual-boot configuration, GPS, and cellular capability too - I just wouldn’t want to pay for it. Realistic expectations…
Respectfully, if you’ve had three of the things and couldn’t get any of them to function correctly, perhaps you should be looking at the meat instead off the silicon.
There seem to be two differences between the 2021 and 2023 versions. The current (2023) one has a somewhat faster CPU, although both are octo-core. And the newer one’s OS is built from a version of Android that is two versions newer (but still old). Perhaps something else, but I haven’t noticed.
Assuming its display isn’t scratched beyond usability, for $39.99 (64-gig one with ten-dollar discount code), it’s a great deal.
POS dead in two weeks. No support or warrany.
This came with a 90-day Woot warranty. Details in the listing.
(Please Note: I’m not employed by Woot, but I volunteer to help in the forums.)
Dead two days after 90 day warrany ran out. Obviously minimally “refininished” and low quality contr. My famil has stack of FOU FIRE TABLETS that wi.ll never light up again and ZERO ZERO ZERO SUPPOR from Amazon. Dont be fooled by their marketing HYPE, their electronics are absolutely BOTTOM QUALITY.
