Cut the GFCI out of the unit and replace the cord plug with the Home Depot plug. Replace the electrical outlet with the GFCI outlet and BAM! You now have a uber cheap portable A/C unit that does not have an overactive GFCI. Or, if you don’t care about the GFCI, you can simply cut out the existing one and not install the new one in the wall. Either way, you are making out like a bandit.
I just moved to North Carolina from California and the humidity is rusting my power tools and cooking my servers. I’m in for 1 to cool AND de-humiidify my workshop/server room. This unit comes with the ability to connect a full-time drain so you don’t have to empty the bucket all the time. What’s not to love??

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. (GFCI) The trip point is usually set to about 10-20 mA.
The purpose of this is to mainly protect people from themselves such as using a hairdryer when standing in soapy water. The potential lethal amount of current if it goes through the heart is about 30 mA under the right conditions to put the numbers in perspective.
This would actually save me money in my townhouse in Arizona where A/C bill is ridiculous when it’s hot outside. I could use it to cool my bedroom where I usually hangout and turn off the central air to the rest of the house.
The problem is how to economically vent the darn hose. Bedroom window is around 5’ high sliding Right to Left (big rectangular hole) and then there is a mesh fitting covering the windows from the exterior.
Any suggestions?

I don’t have one of these nor do I need one but If excessive condensation that the evaporation system couldn’t keep up with was a problem I would try to set up a pump to get rid of the water. There are inexpensive pumps available that would likely work, pond recirculating pumps, aquarium equipment or small boat bilge pumps (both 12-volt and D-cell, some with built-in water switches). You may be able to insulate the hot-air exhaust hose to minimize returning that heat to the room, although it may not look pretty.

2 options:
Plexi Glass the width of the tube + 2" - as tall as your window. Take Plexi and cut hole size of tube. Place plexi in window. Place tube through hole.
Option 2 is to use wood instead of plexi (I used ceader fence panel).
Better off getting cheaper window unit and fitting nice plexi glass over window unit to fill gap above window unit. Looks very clean (my current setup that replaced a portable single hose like this).
This unit maybe too large for your CPU. Other water cooled units still avaliable.
umm… that is the most retarded thing I’ve seen on woot in a long time. you can get a cheap window unit for around 300 bucks now anyway. if you’re hurting for a/c that bad in a single small azz room, you’re going to want to get your monies worth.

That was my idea too. In really humid places it’s likely that the unit won’t evaporate enough of the water used to cool so you’ll have to empty. But this is only in really humid places , Houston comes to mind.
On the other hand I really don’t like the idea of using cool inside air to blow over the
coils and then exhausting that cooled air out the window. It’s against my nature of
efficiency… and it makes me wonder how they come to the EER figure of 12.5 (or whatever it is).
On the other hand for a handy person it’s not hard to mod a unit to use outisde air or to pump out water using a float switch. But 99.9% of most people don’t know how to do this …
If you HAVE to have a portable I think you should try this unit. But don’t try it if you live in a very very humid location. Get one with 2 hoses. And then you can get it with the auto drain/pump unit.
I really wish I could examine this unit because I’d like to buy it. But even in Central CA where we don’t have high humidity, and I know I could fix up the drain to empty out through thr floor on our basement covered house.
Maybe if it’s still here tomorrow I can call around first to some A/C friends.

They have a page here - amcorgroupusa.com that shows some videos. One shows the PLM series using a nanomist to suck out water. It should work well except the suction comes from the exhaust air. This company uses odd and I have a feeling unproven ideas to solve problems. There’s no mention of nanomist in any literature to mention that it takes the excess water out by suction. Then I find it on the page. Cool enough But it’s like the left hand doesn’t talk to the right hand. This bothers me. I used to design install sell and market professional equipment and this company seems disconnected and full of potential problems. I’d say they are a typical chinese ‘fire drill’ running. Sorry. That’s my professional experienece opinion.
For example listen to this. The last sentence in the installation video says,
“The drain container inside the unit has a larger capacity than the container we supply
you with” - When you look at the movie you see that the drain plug is removed just like
on your car oil pan so what do you do? Bring in a bucket to dump the smaller holding container while holding your finger over the hole in the drain?
I think most high humidity places will have problems that people in dry climates won’t
have.

This would be a great price if these things weren’t total crp!!! I purchased this exact model last week to replace a 12k btu window unit that had just died. The coldest air that it put out was 60 degrees. (to put that in perspective, my 6k btu window unit blows 48 degree air) It didn’t even keep the room cool on an 80 degree day when my old window unit could freeze you out on 95 degree days. There customer service dep’t didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with it putting out 60 degree air. I took it back to the local distributor. We tried another unit there. It went down to 54 degrees at first, but then went back up to over 60 and never got any colder again. So I returned mine for a refund. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ITEM!!! As a side note, Ipaid $459 + tax. Never got around to sending in for the $100 rebate.

I paid $489 shipped for a different brand that is 13,000 BTU 4 years ago.
