Apple 14" MacBook Pro (8-Core M1 Pro, 2021)

Apple 14" MacBook Pro (8-Core M1 Pro, 2021)

Received an Apple Certified Refurbished device without any of the wrappers that would normally be under the screen/around the laptop – certainly wouldn’t advertise this as “new”. Not that mad about it but not exactly what I ordered.

Battery manufactured 02-21-2022, 6 cycles. The box interior has a distinct sweet smell that I associate with a failed battery. CoconutBattery and Apple stats report the battery is okay so I will monitor. Serial starts with a Y and Apple website indicates it was a back-channel refurb device.

It was likely a device to be used to replace an in-warranty Macbook. They were opened to check that they started up and were ok and then closed back up.

Still don’t love it being sold as “new” and being an Apple cert refurb. Woot traditionally calls these “certified refurbs”, see my purchase history of a MacBook Pro called “cert refurb” 2 years ago.

But they aren’t refurbished. They are new and tested, hence the open box.

if it says refurb… it’s a refurb. Even if Apple’s cert refurb standards are very very comparable.

Charged up to 100% today and the laptop is actively putting off that same lithium smell from the box. Going to be a return from my end, hope it’s safe to ship back.
