The warranty linked - Here talks about reconditioned devices. They these are supposedly new in open box
I can’t find much on “serviceswarranty” (the domain used to initiate a request) - does anyone know anything about them?
Lack of AppleCare concerns me - I like the ease of being able to pop into an Apple Store and come out with a “new” and/or repaired phone a few hours later.
Agree with those concerns. “New” and “never been in a customer’s hands” should earn an Apple warranty unless the device is considered by Apple to have left authorized distributors hands. I guess these have. On a previous offering with similar terms I had an email exchange with the warranty address cited and was not comfortable with their response although the company appeared to have been in NYC for years and did a volume business in used devices. To my mind this device is priced too high considering genuine Apple is $799 minus tradein. WOOT gets a lot of credit for allowing this sort of discussion on its pages.
I wouldn’t buy one. Apple seems to be going down hill. IPhone 12, 13, 14 pretty much same phone.
Aside from the significant spec sheet differences between each model, this product is none of those phones. It’s the iPhone 15.
No retail box + no Apple warranty = used or refurbed phone. No question about it. Perhaps the seller is misleading Woot, but I’m shocked that these phones are being offered as “new - open box” when it’s clear that this cannot be the case.
I mean, every phone is pretty much the same phone nowadays. At least Apple actually provides long term software support.
“New - Open Box” often means used on Woot.
I recently bought 2 Macbook Pro’s in “New - Open Box” condition and only 1 of them came in the original Apple box and had 1 battery cycle and looked new. The other came in a generic bubblewrap/cardboard sleeve and had 66 battery cycles and showed some wear on the spacebar consistent with a few months of use.
Luckily when I contacted Woot Customer Service about the 2nd one they did agree to refund the difference between “New - Ooen Box” and “Refurbished” versions. So, you gotta watch out for this kind of stuff. I don’t know if there’s a way to check battery cycles on an iPhone but if there is I highly recommend doing so upon delivery.
It says “new - black box” rather than new open box. New - Open Box is typically a return, these say they never went out.
According to our source, these were new iPhones that AppleCare was keeping as replacement units for warranty claims. Apparently AppleCare hasn’t been using as many as they planned, so they decided to sell some of the units out into the market. The discount is coming from the fact that the units are NOT in the original box and DON’T come with an Apple warranty. But the vendor is covering them with their own 1 year policy instead (sorry for having to reuse their old “refurbished phone” policy link, we didn’t have time to create a new version specifically for this new phone deal).
Oh, and we called it “New - Black Box” instead of “New - Open Box” simply due to the difference in the actual box. Generally when we call something “New - Open Box”, it still ships in the original retail box, it’s just been opened for various reasons. These units however will ship in an unbranded BLACK BOX, and NOT the original retail box.
What’s the return policy here? I can’t find it in the app and I’ve never returned anything to Woot…
Here’s Woot’s return policy:

Just curious how does the warranty work ? Is the 1 year warranty from Woot or from other third party. Just wanted to see if someone had any experience with it in the past.
If you click the warranty link, you’ll see that it’s provided by a vendor.

So they’re basically Apple refurbs given out as warranty replacements by Apple?
Except that they’re new, not refurbished. ![]()
