Ceramic Kamado Grill

Ceramic Kamado Grill

Just bought this. Anyone have any idea if it is decent? Any comparisons to Green Egg and Joe?

My wife wants an outdoor pizza oven and I’ve had a passing interest in this style of cooker, so I may just pull the trigger here since the price is so good. Unfortunately, I am nervous about something that is both this heavy and this fragile (the shell is made of ceramic after all) being shipped and have to worry about a replacement if it arrives broken. Can anyone say just how well padded and packaged it is?

On a side note - after reading descriptions and reviews on other pages, the cart is made from stainless steel and not aluminum as described here on Woot.

Looks like the assembly will be a little more work, but that’s not a huge deal. One of the nice things about Kamados is they’re pretty simple. As long as it’s tight (no air leaks around vents and felt gasket) it will do the same job as the BGE that’s twice the cost. Good BBQ is more about the meat and the chef.

Heh. Then she shall have one, right?

Yes she shall.

The cost to build one plus my time and effort far exceeds what this kamado costs, plus a dedicated outdoor pizza oven would only be a one-trick-pony. With this she gets her wood-fired pizza oven, plus I get to use it for everything else. I’m not a particular fan of a grill like this because there are only the two of us at home and it’s not nearly as convenient as our regular grill for smaller amounts of food, nor will it hold as much as my Orion Cooker when I smoke ribs, chicken or brisket, etc. for a crowd, but the combination of the pizza oven capability and the lower price tipped me over the edge.

I’m still worried about damage during shipment, but I guess I will have to wait and see.

Hey Woot! Please check with your supplier - the pictures seem to be messed up as the photos that show this grill with the lid open show a large lid alignment pin in the middle on the lower lip (just behind the lifting handle in the 3rd and 4th photo down). Other pictures with the lid closed do not show this pin. Which one are we getting here?

I checked on the Lonestar Chef website and they have some photos mixed up as well, but it seems that the unit with the lid alignment pin is the 22" model.

I so want to pull the trigger but this new Woot format has made it difficult to see reviews and I notice I just got an notification that im a new subscriber? WTF Woot?

Wonder if I can say Bag of Crap?

Amazon reviews? They’re still on the sale page.

Jon651: Kamado/BigGreenEgg makes a fantastic pizza oven. When looking for recipes, make sure not just to look for Kamado, but also BGE recipes. There’s a knowledgeable group of people on /r/biggreenegg on reddit for questions, ideas, etc. Obviously make sure you get the pizza stone

If you like smoked meat, you can’t go wrong. There’s a learning curve and a bit of work putting it together, but with the right accessories, it can make fantastic meals

Sorry for the late response. From the vendor:

Both the 19 and 22 inch units have the lid pin. This pin collapses when the lid is closed.
