Dell Latitude 7414 Rugged 14" Laptop

Horrible screen resolution, especially on a 14" display.

and i5-6300u processor is not compatible for Windows 11 so basically e-waste or you use it for a stand alone diags machine or something not on the internet

If not for the high price, I’d be in for one for running Linux. The 6300U isn’t the fastest from its generation by a long shot, but lighter distros like Void or MX Linux would run great on it.

for sure, and defiantly cheaper than who’s line they are competing with ( more of a fair comparison… 2K screen res

That is what I was wondering was how Linux would work on it, or possibly a way to use Chrome OS. It would be nice to have a rugged notebook for being on a job site. Really only need browser access.

Intel is currently on the 14th gen cpu, this is 6th gen.

As noted above, like millions of PCs that still run Windows 10 perfectly fine and snappy, ungreen Microsoft (and its shilling to DELL, HP, Lenovo who want more hardware sales) has dead-ended this laptop as of October 2025 (end of security support for Windows 10), about 18 months from now, since it is not Windows 11 compatible. Microsoft did not shill to the hardware makers like this when they launched Windows 10.

These rugged laptops have very premium prices when new, so companies and govts buying them truly need the ruggedness to be used in the field in tough conditions. Immediately thoroughly test it if you buy one - it has potentially seen a hard, hot, dusty life.

$360/$383 (256/512 SSD) seems high for a 6th gen machine (with entry level 4th gen screen) you are not personally inspecting prior to buying. Particularly if you do not need “rugged”. For about the same or a few more bucks, on the right sale, you can buy a new Dell i5 with 12 or 13th gen with current specs and screen, admittedly a mainstream retail Inspiron line, but with 12 month warranty. Thankfully Woot Customer Service tends to be responsive.
