Derby Preview #826: Japan Pop!

Ahh, Japan, my favorite place I’ve never been. Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation. Anime and manga. Cool cars and drifting. Sushi and ramen. Man, there’s some great stuff coming out of there. And I bet there will be some great shirts coming out of here!

No politics, no cream shirts.
No celebrity likenesses in mockups/detail images.

Going to signal-boost the “Up to 4 entries per artist” part in case anyone misses it…I’m a natural skim-reader and would be the sort to screw that up. I know I can’t be the only one.

So desu ne.

Yeah, that seems like a weird rule to me. What’s the harm in doing more than 4 entries? Does it even happen often enough to be worth making a rule for?

If the concern is low-effort art (like flooding the derby with plain text slogans or something) I’d rather see a rule against that than pegging it at a number.

because lately we’ve had artists submit 10-15 designs and flood the bottom of the page. it’s just a bad experience for people trying to view entries.

wtf japan GIF

The tough part is such rules could become too subjective if the rule isn’t clearly defined like “no text only”, which technically wouldn’t eliminate a “low-level” design that’s nothing more than a phrase plus an emoji.

In the old days, a 4 design limit wouldn’t have been a hinderance mainly due to the time aspect. Nowadays, with a week …

Maybe make it 6?

Sub it under my name, and I’ll give you 37.6825% of all revenue.
