Do you subscribe to a newspaper?
I would, but our local paper is constantly riddled with proofreading errors.
I would subscribe, if only the ads would reduce to 1/4 of the paper, rather than 1/2 !!
It’s the same, in print (paper) and online.
Ridiculous.
I miss the “True” tabloids …
Mad Scientist Invents Goggles That Reveal Your Secret Lust For Woot! BOCs!
Nope, and the only time I miss getting one is when I want to do a crossword or need to start a fire in the winter.
I subscribe to the New York Time Crossword puzzle for the last 3 or so years. On line and an app access. I can also print them out. Woo Hoo
Newspapers will spend a year running headlines, “Local Man Accused of Marrying Illegal Big Cat “ with some guys name and home address, and then there will be one little paragraph one day that says, “ASPCA Volunteer Acquitted After Mixup”.
Do underground newsletters count? If so… no… why? What have you heard?
I subscribe to two online newspapers because I got crazy good deals on them. When those deals end, I will have to end my subscriptions. I can’t afford it otherwise.
… buried in the middle of the classifieds that nobody reads.
Do they offer anything that you can’t get for free elsewhere? I mean… with SO many sites, surely there’s other alternatives?
Yes, they do offer better quality journalism, which is why I subscribe. There are definitely a lot of sites out there but a lot of them don’t offer quality reporting.

quality reporting.
I didn’t know that was still a thing
I have digital subscriptions to the NY Times and Washington Post.
I call my local paper “The Fishwrap” because that’s all it’s good for. A few years ago, they ran a story about algae blooms closing beaches on a local lake. They never mentioned which beaches were closed.
Yes I do.
No, our local paper has been bought and sold more times than a hooker when the fleet is in port. No local content just AP stories “edited” to fit around advertisements. Journalism in general is broken,a mix of sensationalism and sell outs. There are still a few dedicated independent reporters but their content is better accessible directly through the net.
I subscribe to the New York Times but as an educator I get a rate of $1 a week. If that rate ever goes away, i unsubscribe and wait a month for the next offer to hit my mailbox…or just email them. The subscription includes the crosswords, which cost $40 a year alone, so it’s a no-brainer. Plus, I teach policy courses (University professor) and use the articles in my classes.
If you teach at any level, you should take advantage of this deal! If you’re too conservative politically to partake, maybe the Wall Street Journal has similar pricing.
Yes. A local paper and a national one.
