Doral Designs Popcorn Maker

I believe that the door comes out (not in as some have questioned). The handle is at the top of the (clear) door. It pulls out and swings down. The item inside that looks like a door swung in is actually a deflector panel to keep the popcorn away from the door opening.

This is a great item for a home theater - I believe I’ll get one!

Umm, do you guys think that the popping technology is somehow magical? Popcorn is popcorn, no matter how you pop it. It’s made from dried corn kernels. The little bit of moisture that’s in the kernel is gone by the time it pops. If you’re oil popping it or microwave popping it, and you find it less dry, it’s because there’s oil or grease on it. What happened was some of the oil or grease which was on it to help it heat up is still there. With air-popped popcorn, if you want that grease, you can just add it after popping it. It’s the same thing either way. Plus with air popping you can choose your own grease, so you can add butter or olive oil instead of whatever cheap vegetable oil is in the bag.

When it comes down to it, if you don’t like air popped popcorn, you don’t like popcorn, you just like grease, but apparently not enough to add it to your popcorn yourself.

Froogle takes us here:

$19 cheaperincluding shipping

It shows $59.99 for me and shipping is $9.

Fixed your link for you.

Yes, you are correct.

US Appliance: $59.99 + $9.00 = $68.99
Woot: $44.99 + $5.00 = $49.99

US Appliance - Woot = $68.99 - $49.99 = $19.

Thus, Woot is cheaper than US Appliance by $19.00

I totally agree with you, and to top it off I think this is going to look great in my theater room

Believe it or not, some air poppers are good for roasting small batches of coffee beans. I wonder if this will work for that?

at least it doesn’t ship SmartPost - in for one for the office

this would go awesome with my projector

Finally a reason to use my Zune coupon.
39.99 for me

Wish there were Overnight options for woots other than just the shirts, got a party this weekend and wish I could have it by then. Oh well, always next year!

You know, I was just thinking the other day, "boy, my TV projector looks really lonely up there, up on the top shelf of my living room closet. I really ought to get something else less than 10 inches tall** to go up there with it. Hmmm, what to get…"*

And then you come along, at some ungodly hour of the morning, and make the suggestion - wow, I could get this f-u-g-l-y popcorn popper (which would, in one go, make more popcorn than we consume in an entire year) and put it up on the shelf with the projector… on its side!

    • on the opposite side of the room from the wall that the couch faces, of course!

** - distance between the shelf and the top of the closet

Yes. Yes I do. Thanks for asking, Keith - you’re the first person I’ve met who seems to understand!

SWEEEET rebuke, dude! Awesome. Couldn’t have said it better myself!

By the way, the ultra-nasty grease that’s in the bag (in the case of microwaved popcorn) or in the popping tub (in the case of movie theater popcorn) is typically hydrogenated coconut oil - the deadliest trans-fat known to man! A single serving of the stuff on sale at the movie theater is a deadly as a dozen donuts! Check it out here: [url=]http://www.cspinet.org/nah/popcorn.html

Air popped popcorn makers are junk! I had one of these and every time a kernel popped it would throw 5 or 6 un-popped kernels out of the “large capacity popping chamber” with it so by the time it was done you had about 60% un-popped kernels mixed in with 40% popcorn! DON’T GET IT! But if you do don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

Hahaha… go Keith!

My husband has been dying for one of these. Would be fun at a kid’s birthday party, too. I am also going to a wedding… this would be a FUN wedding gift! Ugh… wish it was just a TAD bit cheaper… decisions…

after doing a little research, some of you might know where I got this picture but I was also asking my self how the door would work so take a loot at this.

It really looks the same, but it has different buttons and that’s about it… maybe.. ?

That is very similar to the Doral Designs Popcorn Maker, the thing that looks like the door is actually a sheet of metal that funnels the popcorn to the back of the container. It’s a little popcorn slide.

Technically, I agree with you, but in practice, I think there’s a difference. Air will dry out any moisture in the kernels after they pop, while ther remains some in it with other methods. Try this, get a microwave popcorn popper (not a bag of microwave popcorn, a dish you put in the microwave and then put kernels in). Without the air blowing over it, it retains some moisture without any use of oil.

We’ve been doing popcorn this way for years almost every night as healthy snack. It takes no longer than a bag of microwave popcorn (about 4 minutes) you get more and its better for you, no oil unless you spritz it later.

It’s hard to justify microwave bag popcorn when a 50lb bag of regular premium corn costs $12 at Sams will last forever in storage if kept correctly. A 50lb bag lasts our family of 5 about a year. Popcorn for a year for $12, hard to beat!

styrofoam peanuts, air popped popcorn
Both taste the same and pretty much serve the same purpose.
Woot should keep these for themselves, make biodegradable packing material, get loads of press for being GREEN.
