Doral Designs Popcorn Maker

Goodness, I’m very tempted. I have no idea what I would DO with it but its so COOL…

I’m surprised nobody has yet to mention how NOISY hot-air poppers are. Basically like a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner running. You want THAT while you are watching a movie?

Now put up a REAL popper - with kettle and stirrer - and you’ll have something that makes authentic movie-theatre popcorn.

Both taste the same and pretty much serve the same purpose.
Woot should keep these for themselves, make biodegradable packing material, get loads of press for being GREEN.

Ohhh! Great Idea!!

When it comes down to it, if you don’t like air popped popcorn, you don’t like popcorn, you just like grease, but apparently not enough to add it to your popcorn yourself.

Nope, I like the salt! Which, of course, won’t stick without the grease… :frowning:

Blah.

Hot Oil cooked popcorn is the way to go… may not be as healthy as air-cooked, but when you slather all that melted butter (about 2x needed over oil cooked) it’s all a wash in the end.

For me, I have one of those hand-cranked stove-top jobbies (old-fashioned kettles). Nothing beats it, perfect for popcorn for up to 4 people and about $20 at your local department store. Infinitely better than micro popcorn (rather do without popcorn than eat that carp).

Cool addition to a media room for looks, though.

My husband has been dying for one of these. Would be fun at a kid’s birthday party, too. I am also going to a wedding… this would be a FUN wedding gift! Ugh… wish it was just a TAD bit cheaper… decisions…

don’t take this the wrong way, but for the happy couple’s sake, check what they’re registered for, because well… i’d get them something they wanted.

Or on the other hand, don’t bother getting them anything.
Statistics say they’ll be divorced in no time anyway. :0)

I believe that the door comes out (not in as some have questioned). The handle is at the top of the (clear) door. It pulls out and swings down. The item inside that looks like a door swung in is actually a deflector panel to keep the popcorn away from the door opening.
[/quote]
That makes more sense. Maybe the Woot will work after all. It just has a clear door rather than a silvery one.

So, it’s a average-size hot-air popper with a snazzy box around it… And a huge price markup…

I have a West Bend “Stir Crazy” electric hot oil popper that makes about two gallons of popcorn (rough estimate) and makes it taste good. It stirs the popcorn so it gets heated and popped evenly, and it pops a lot more than most other methods. (Hot oil theater-style poppers also do well for a similar reason - popped stuff gets out of the way, leaving unpopped stuff in the heat.) They are generally at Wal-Mart and Target; Wal-Mart online shows it (though out-of-stock) at $24.72.

I don’t like microwave popcorn because it has more grease and less taste, as well as being more expensive. I use a combination of canola oil and butter (cooks well, smokes less and costs less than straight butter), followed by popcorn salt. It only takes a tablespoon or so of oil, unless you just want more than that.

I’d get one of these if it really was a theater-style popper, but not hot air. Yes I have my Stir Crazy, but the free flow from a theater-style popper is good with friends over.

Pretty much all popcorn is pretty gross until you flavor it with something. As far as the packing material - I’d rather they stick with the sweet texas air - love the smell of dirt, desert and dog poo in the morning…

good use of atheromatously

Bah! This is a perfect gift for someone that you are just okay with. My dad is getting one. He can decide whether to have his guests to eat healthy or to coat their corn with real butter. Free food will make him a hero either way and I get karma points for the good son role. Now I just have to figure out how I can get on his guest list!

I’ll pop your corn bitches!

j/k If you buy this you can pop it your bad @$$ self.

I agree. Must have a retired medical guy on board that figured out there was more money in refurbed goodies than Medicare was paying him. Atheromatously speaking of course

I am in for one.

Will be using this for a party during Labor Day weekend.

I happen to like air popped corn with a little bit of butter, sugar and cinnamon.

mine arrived today - box full of broken glass
darn it
Did anyone get a useable popcorn maker?

My popper arrived today and the popcorn just burns in the popper and never actually pops. The corn does not turn at all just sits there unlike other hot air poppers I’ve used. Any help?

What a piece of garbage.

Looks great, seems sturdy and well made, larger than expected, made of metal and glass… really nice…until you use it.

The popcorn takes forever to pop and you have to pop about 10 batches to fill up the machine with popcorn.

The blower is very weak, the popcorn barily moves unlike other much cheaper (but not as cool looking) air poper’s I’ve had.

It’s imposible to clean due to it’s design. (you can’t clean the glass inside)

It’s impossible to add salt or butter without taking the popcorn out of the unit which defeats the purpose of getting this type of popper.

I asked for a refund - Woot said “sure” but then said I’d have to pay for return shipping which would cost more than it’s worth since this thing weighs about 25lbs.

HOWEVER: If your still interested and really want one of these I’ve listed mine on eBay
