Do we think these are $4 better than a 3rd gen dot? I have both and can’t decide.
I was curious about the same thing, and was under the impression that the software abilities of the 4th were better because it has a better microphone.
But the actual speaker hardware is the same, and the smaller disc shape 3rd gen is more attractive imo. Also on the fence with which to get my mom
I think either would be fine, unless she’s really into tech devices or is a hardcore audiophile (at which point maybe the Dot itself isn’t the best choice).
I will say one thing I love about the Amazon devices: we’ve got 8 1st Gen Echo Shows running in our home, they still work, still get updated, and still sound great. Better, IMHO, than most of the future gens that were released. Sure, they’re big and boxy, but man are they dependable. Amazon seems to really support these devices for a long period of time.
