Ember Temperature Control Mug 2, 10oz & 14oz

RE: WARRANTY
There’s some discussion about issues with the Ember warranty. Our vendor confirmed that Ember should honor the warranty and they will be talking with Ember. If all else fails, you can reach out to Sales@etechdistribution.com and they will assist with the warranty issue.

Even though this is a great deal for a refurb mug, note that Ember will NOT honor the warranty that is described on this page. This should be removed from the description.

In regards to the warranty, is this from personal experience? I was considering getting as a gift, but if a refurb doesn’t have a decent warranty….

Yes, I bought one the last time they offered them. The mug would not hold a charge. I only had it for a couple months before it started happening. I went through Ember for warranty steps and they said purchases from Woot do not qualify for their warranty replacement.

Strong recommend against getting these. I bought a white one and over about 6 months the ceramic lining inside it flaked off on the bottom. I assume I drank a good portion of it. Ember never responded to my warranty request.

Undeterred and being a moron, I decided to get a copper one when I found it on sale, thinking that “hey there’s no lining this will be fine.” And I made sure to not use metal utensils in it.

But a transparent lining on the bottom DID cook off after about 6 months again.

Unless you are really keen on ingesting ceramic and probably some sort of plastic, stay away from these mugs.

Same experience with them not holding a charge after a few months - mine lasted maybe a year. Plus the springs on POGO pins on the base break and a new charger base is $30. Connecting via Bluetooth on Android was also very hit or miss.

I have replaced them with dumb temperature controlled mugs that have physical buttons on the mug. Can’t control the temp as precise but I don’t swear at them and want to throw them through the wall like I did with the Ember.

Ive owned these mugs for many many years now and their customer service used to be awesome. Ive had 2 mugs replaced at no cost however their policies have now changed and will only offer you a discount after 1 year. However, the mugs inside WILL flake and the pins to charge the mug WILL give out and lose the spring thus not be able to charge anymore. This has happened on every single mug of theirs and given this is a design flaw on their part Ive vowed to purchase a different product moving forward. As a hack, I placed a bit of solder on the pin, so that I still get contact but they have had this issue for years now without fixing.

Thank you everyone for stopping me from making a purchase I would have probably regretted.

I have a 16oz Tumbler that I bought new from Ebay. With it the weak points are the lid and the charging coaster. These don’t use the same lid, so that won’t be an issue, but they use the same charging coaster. I had it replaced twice under warranty, but the 2nd time they took so long I ordered a charger from Amazon. Now that charger is being replaced under warranty. If I didn’t have the 2nd charger they sent me under warranty I wouldn’t be able to use it again. I have had good luck getting them to do warranty replacements, but they are very slow. With the charging coaster it’s not will it break, but when will it break.

Same here! I was going to go ahead and order one. But I have decided to stand down for now. Thanks to the wonderful wooters who have taken the time to come back and leave a review.

I agree with everyone here. These won’t charge 6-12 months from now. I didn’t have the flaking liner, but charging issues are real for sure.

Great reviews that stopped me from throwing $40 in the trash. Thnx.

I guess I’m the only one with a good experience. I bought two mugs from woot in the last year. One has worked perfectly fine and continues to work well. One gave the rainbow error. I contacted support and they sent me a new one no issue. Our mugs have been great and see daily use. I’m grabbing one here as a backup.

We did run into one of our coasters not being able to charge. I bought a bunch of ebay coasters and got barrel to USB-C converters so I could use them in more places.

Im with you. There is a thread here somewhere though where a Wooter posted her screenshot from Ember saying they wouldn’t honor her warranty since she bought from Woot.

That said, I have a few of these I’ve bought here and from fleabay for cheap. I picked up 3 on this sale so I can have a set of 4 copper mugs and will sell my others.

Only real issue I’ve ever had is that the Android app does suck. There’s online information about it, and there’s a third party app for a small fee that you can use that most people say works well.

Not saying anyone here is doing anything wrong, but you do have to make sure that the bottom of the cup is never wet when you put it on the charging coaster. If you do, I believe you’re basically performing electrolysis on the water in between the pogo pins and the charging ring. That will cause the metal coatings to oxidize, and eventually the Pogo pins and their Springs will fail.

There may be other reasons why the springs fail, but I’ve noticed from looking at a lot of online postings where the charging pad isn’t working, it’s because there’s oxidation on the pins or the pins dropped and show oxidation.

I was fastidious about being sure the bottom of the mug and the base was always dry because of all the reports about the pins failing. I had Pogo pins on 2 bases fail. Ember took over 2 months to reply to a request for a replacement, which they didn’t replace. The failure is so common iFixIt has a page on how to replace them. I ripped my base apart and they were just broken, no signs of corrosion. When the mug quit charging I gave up on them. I really wanted to like it but they were not worth all the hassle. The mug 2.0 was released back in 2019 and the seems they have no interest in making any fixes to any of the well known problems.

For anyone who wants to keep their coffee/tea/cider/etc. warm at home, I’ve been a big fan of this warmer. I use it with notNeutral Lino mugs, and the combo keeps my coffee pleasantly warm for hours every day at the lowest setting. It’s nice to be able to use multiple sizes of mugs depending on what I’m drinking, and two of those warmers cost less than one Ember on sale.

One of the reasons I like this model is it keeps coffee in a range where I can still taste the full flavors (our ability to taste generally diminishes for very hot or very cold things). But if you prefer your coffee/tea scalding, there are a bunch of other warmers on Amazon and elsewhere that will do that.

I was about to purchase one but then I checked the discussion just to be safe. Glad I did!

If anyone is interested in a non-electric mug that will keep your drinks warm, look into the Joeveo Temperfect mug. I got it through Kickstarter and received it in 2016. Nine years and still going strong. The main draw is that it will store excess heat and bring your beverage to a drinkable temperature in three minutes, and then uses that stored heat to keep the beverage at a drinkable temperature for hours.

Not sure where you get the not accountable from. The message I shared wasfrom our vendor this afternoon. They will be talking with Ember. If there is an issue, the vendor will take care of things.

Just to chime in and confirm, Ember will not honor their warranty, whether new or refurbished, from Woot or not. Theyre slow to respond and only offer a re-buy it option which is at a price higher than most deals around this time of year.
