Love this tablet. Have several, but for this price, just got another.

Nice and big for watching videos, still updates software, uses USB C charging cable.

I have never owned a tablet. Do you have to add them to a network (such as Verizon, Xfinity, etc) to work on WiFi - like your phone? Sorry, but I have had issues with connection with my IPhone so I am just wondering how this actually works…

FYI, since the newest Fire HD 10 (2023) just went on sale on the mothership for $139.99, Amazon dropped the last gen Fire HD 10 (2021) to $74.99 [new]. This refurbished Fire HD 10 (2019) on Woot! was $49.99 12 days ago. It is now $39.99 here thanks to the newer model coming out and dropping the price of the 2021. As far as I can tell, the only real upgrade from the 2019 to the 2021 was an additional 1GB of RAM, 3 more megapixels on the rear camera, and bluetooth 4.2 to 5.0. The display resolution, chipset, CPU, and GPU are the same. It is possible the screen on the 2021 gets brighter, but I can find that spec listed anywhere.

Hi there. Yes, these use Wi-Fi. You’d need Internet service and in your home, you’d need a router connected to the Internet modem to use Wi-Fi.

Most tablets, and especially inexpensive ones like these, are meant as standalone devices. They are fantastic for basic web browsing, watching movies, reading books/comics/magazines.

As standalone, they are not equipped with any cellular data capability, so they do not need to be “activated” with a carrier. They just do Wi-Fi, and that’s it

Hope that helps

How much will it cost to remove the sponsored ads?

I believe $20 per device.

Customers report that the ads aren’t intrusive and only appear on the sleep screen not while you’re actively using the device.

Considering this for my son. Can anyone here weigh out the pros and cons of this vs the kids Amazon hd 7 with 16gb?

I don’t know the specs for the Fire 7 Kids very well, so I’ll give you a slightly different comparison - From the HD 10 even just to the HD 8 Kids, I would strongly lean toward the 10 for a few reasons:

  • Resolution:
The 10 has a 1920x1200 screen, which is just a bit better than the normal 16:9 aspect for 1080p. And that handily beats the 1280x800, which is the same aspect expansion over 720p. And while the size is decreased, there is a sharpness benefit too, since the 10 has 224 ppi (pixels per inch), where the smaller one is only 189 ppi.
  • CPU and RAM:
While the Fire tablets are not known for being overwhelming powerhouses, you still want as much performance as they can give you, so that they don’t just slow down to the point that you don’t want to use them. The 8 model is only equipped with a hexacore processor, versus the 10’s octacore- The extra two cores won’t always matter, but why not give yourself the benefit if you can? Also, depending on the year, the 10 can have extra RAM (3GB instead of 2), although this 2019 model has only 2GB, if I’m not mistaken.

However, there are some very obvious reasons why the Kids models may appeal more, such as the fact that they are set up with parental controls and limitations by default (no extra hassle to set it up and manage, although you could do that with other devices too), the case is integrated and included (my nieces and nephew have yet to decommission theirs, despite some impressive feats of destruction), and the included content that may be appealing for kids… You do need to be watchful though, as there is a monthly subscription that will eventually start applying with the Kids model benefits.

Hopefully that helps to some degree. It really boils down to your usage, and priorities. For me, I’d take the 10 (but I use an iPad Pro and a Kindle Paperwhite). For my little family members, we have used the 10 Kids and 8 Kids models, and they’ve done fine for the most part.

You can purchase the Asurion extended warranty a few days after buying the unit here right?

How? There is no link on the listing to click or follow.

Links are each sale after the warranty if the item qualifies.

So… this doesn’t qualify like you told sanchezke it does?

It just barely qualifies at that price point. In trying to find a link, it looks like the computer team isn’t very good at remembering to add it.

Here you go.

Optional Asurion Protection Plan: To further protect your purchase, you can buy an Asurion protection plan from Amazon here. Review the FAQs for additional information.

A tablet is a portable electronic by its nature, but wouldn’t this plan be more appropriate?
