It is vital that you will actually eat what you store. So it has to be to your liking. A few days ago, I broke out a bag of mac and cheese from Patriot Pantry to make for my grandchildren and to find out just how it tasted. Fixing exactly to the directions, first find was that it was soupy. Cooked it about 10 minutes longer to get it creamier but still pretty wet. Taste: had a bitter aftertaste that none of us liked. It was edible, but the grandkids did not eat as much as they normally would have. I suggest getting a smaller portion, maybe a 72-hour supply and trying it first.
I agree you have to try a smaller sample first. In an emergency, I guess i wouldn’t care, but I do like to have good tasting food. Out of the multiple meals, I only liked 2 or 3, including their Pasta Alfredo. Their Maple Grove Oatmeal is AWESOME, I would buy an entire supply of that if it was available!
It looks like for this offer we are only doing bundles that include a 2-week supply. It’s possible that we’ll offer the 2-week supply separately in the future, so keep checking your emails!
As with all of these freeze dried foods, do your research before buying. Many of the so-called “servings” are only 250 - 300 calories. They consider that in the number of days these are good for. So likely, you’re going to gave to eat three to four servings per meal just to keep your body fueled if you’re being active - running from zombies (or democrats) burns a lot of calories.
I agree on all counts that you need to try before you buy. I keep a variety of freeze dried foods in my emergency supply. There are Many out there and I would have to say so far, Mountain house gets the most thumbs up. Backpackers pantry is another good source but without listing all the names, I have about 6 different brands, from veggies to meat. Even toss in a couple cases of MRE’s (real, not commercial brand, just do your homework so you know you are not getting something that is close to expiring). MRE’s only last 7 years IF and that’s a BIG if, you keep them stored in a cool place. Worth it if you need to grab and go and they don’t need but a little bit of water to activate the heater. Urine works in the pence. But FWIW, I stock this brand. I have 4week kit and a couple of the protein tubs. I’ve had some of the chicken. Tastes like chicken. Not too salty but in my experience, most freeze dried meats are pretty high in sodium so no need to worry about adding salt lol.
How many of the foods are vegetarian? At a glance none said “beef this” or “chicken that” but “traditional Italian lasagna” doesn’t inspire confidence haha.
Is there meat in the entrees?
No, there isn’t meat in any of our entrees. They are prepared with either chicken or beef stock. We do have both chicken and beef available in our Mega Protein kit. The reason that meat is not included in recipes themselves is that the preparation process for long term storage is a bit different. The entrees are dehydrated and the chicken and beef are both freeze-dried. They are different because both beef and chicken often contain fats. If not prepared correctly, the fats can become rancid over time. This would ruin the entrée and definitely shorten the shelf-life of your preparedness foods.
Unfortunately if I depended on this food my son would die in an emergency… He’s allergic to milk and almost every recipe in this package includes milk… EVEN THE “ORANGE ENERGY DRINK”… Obviously, we don’t expect all food to be made without milk on his account… But, most other emergency packages I’ve seen from other companies include a variety of different foods and at least have several options he can eat, but we are out of luck with this one.
