GE Factory Refurbished Opal 2.0 Ice Maker

GE Factory Refurbished Opal 2.0 Ice Maker

Ok, it’s sold out so can’t leave a review, so just want to let anyone know in the future, go buy bleach and vinegar before this thing even gets to your house, it is going to need a deep deep deep deep cleaning if it is anything like the one I received. Mine came with little white clumps all over the inside, and some red residue all around the ice chute. I ran the cleaning cycle 5 times with the bleach cleaner (5 cups water 1 tsp bleach) and the little bits of gunk just kept coming. Today I ran vinegar and it did come out somewhat cloudy, I’m assuming that’s the dissolved minerals it got out. Eventually I got it running all clear after many cleaning cycles. Even though I was not excited to clean the heck out of it, I am fluent in the cleaning, draining, and maintenance already, on day one. It’s a get what you pay for, needs some elbow grease to get it back into shape, but other than the cleaning it initially took it is working great. It pumped out tons of ice and it looks great besides one thing. The ice bin that came with it was the most used or damaged part, would have been nice if they would have replaced that as part of the refurbishing. It has a little air leak on the outside part of the insulated plastic bin which is getting condensation buildup between front plastic viewing windows. So it’s not getting a crystal clear view in the front of the ice bin and it is scratched up a bit, but it’s just cosmetic and I’ll say it’s not a huge deal for me, I don’t notice it unless I’m looking closely. Thought I’d share my experience with it.

I had to return the one I received. Opal 2.0 would not attach to app, clean cycle would not start or do anything, water would just sit there. So turned all off and tried again the next day. Clean cycle started - did it 5 -6 times-unit was clean. So set it to making ice, left the room and came back to water all over my wood floor. Water pouring out the bottom of the machine, not 1 nugget of ice. The machine had some dents on top but no damage to box. Had to return - now I’m apprehensive to try another. May try reconditioned and not refurbished. I would get a separate warranty if you get refurbished. I have the original Opal and its still going strong after 5 yrs, wanted to add one at work.
