Have you attended a demolition derby?
Every day in my shop is a demolition derby
Why, of course! It was part of the county fair. I knew several of the drivers and laughed at how torque off they got after being eliminated.
I never attended to anything pertaining to motor vehicles. A race nor a demolition derby. But I did play it on the Playstation console
Nope
i’ve attended roller derby.
That would be a lifelong dream come true! No joke!
I used to stage my own all the time as a kid which, naturally, drove my parents crazy since they didn’t exactly appreciate all the money they wasted on toys I smashed to hell and back. At least they were still made primarily of metal back then (the toys, not my parents), so they lasted a very long time!
I’ve participated in one. Bumper cars count, right?
Not for over 40 years since I was a kid. Our local town’s summer festival would do a tractor pull followed up by the demo derby…
Once my son turned old enough, he started getting involved in those (modifying and driving). I was very glad when he outgrew that phase.
Oh yeah. Love them. In my teens my uncles would drive in them and I would help prepare the cars. And as an adult I would only go to the county fair on Sunday and go watch the demo derby
Actually, now that I think about it, I HAVE attended a demolition derby (of sorts)! It was Robot Wars way back in 1997. Basically, a bunch of robot nerds with violence in their veins would create robots and have them fight each other. They used saw blades, grinders, hammers, spikes, etc. to try to take out their opponents. All that protected the audience from the mayhem was some plywood and plexiglass. The future MythBusters guys greated a particularly deadly bot called “Blendo” that ended up ripping off a couple chunks of metal from a competitor that created a gash in the plexiglass and some shrapnel landed in the audience (no one got hit). I made sure to keep my distance during Blendo’s next round, after which it was declared too dangerous to continue. I had no idea who he was at the time, but one of the MST3K guys hosted. The whole thing was tons of fun and in between rounds you could wander around through the workshop area and watch the guys work on their robots.
I figure of all people, @RebelTaz would have gotten a kick out of this. There was even a Tazbot!
Never, I’d like to though.
County Fair had demo-derby every year. It was part of your entry fee. It was a good place to rest and eat your lunch.
I only went once as the primary attraction. A friend bought a junker, painted it pink(with house paint) and named it the carp special. He almost made won it too!
It was his first and last Derby.
I would like to one day.
Once when I was very young. I remember having a lot of fun!
