i live a mile away from a dirt track. now adays the fairs and smaller tracks try to cram so many cars into the area, no one can move!
When I was a kid my father drove in the demolition derby every year for like 5 years. I got to help him break the glass out and paint. Heās demolition derby car. It was awesome.

lol⦠as much as I love robots (I mean⦠dedicated online museum, hello!) I never really got into that show. To me, those were just more remote control cars than they were true robots ![]()
But thatās cool about the TazzBot. I never knew that!
meh⦠You know what they say about opinions

That Reliant Robin part of the race is epic. I saw those on Top Gear. What a nightmare to drive, even not in a banger race!
A long, long time ago in the 1970s. That was when they used real steel cars. It was always the radiators that would kill a cars chance to be the last one still running.

They arenāt that bad ⦠right?
Robert Dunn of Aging Wheels has one, of course:
Itās downright normal compared to the Twike, though:
Slight whiplash and a jammed wrist!
My motherās boyfriend used to drive in them, and we would spray paint our names on the car and bet whoās would get hit first, and whoās might be readable when it was over! Lol loved them!
My younger self used to help a friend prep cars for demo derby, and for some reason we decided to enter multiple cars. My car ended up being worked last and and rushed. In the Derby a weld on the shift linkage failed after very few hits. My old self is glad there arenāt old demo derby injuries to flare up now.
Saw my last one in the Houston Astrodome!

Iām part of the tiny percentage that drove in one.
It was fun, I won the first round, Iād do it again.
It was 16 years ago, and 1 month before I got married.
And injuries = none.
The aftermath:
You arenāt considered an American until youāve been to a demolition derby.
First gen Taurus?
In the 70ās we did. Plus the track we went to was high banked, VW bugs would race there, after crashing the car might roll down the track.

I donated my beloved 1988 oldsmobile delta 88. The transmission started slipping, 2 window motors and the windshield wiper motor all went in a month (25 yr old car) and the fire dept was asking for car donation to benefit victims of a huge local fire. Figured it was a sign. I couldnāt watch. She lost to a Cadillac but took 2nd. My kids went and took pics. The passed it on a flatbed headed to the junkyard on the way home.
