Amazon has reviews. 4.2 stars. $26.80. Not much of a discount/deal.

No deal to be seen here. Seems that’s been a common theme on Woot last few months

All the stuff “comes over from Amazon”, and Bezos is feeling pinched right now. His net worth while still several billion is down a few hundred million from its’ peak…

Or when we priced this last week, it was over $40. Then the price goes down right before we launch this but our cost doesn’t go down. What do you do?

We had one of these years ago, same brand, not sure about the features. We found that it was pretty useless compared to our early 80’s box fan (which expired a few years ago). Ended up donating it after it was in the attic for a decade. Hope the newer versions move air better than the one we had.

The technology has improved in the ensuing decades I’m sure.

Is the fan direction reversible, so it blows out instead of in?

Also, is the outside part screened, to prevent bugs and such from coming in?

Me too–Asking same questions, but will go ISO info also🤓

Q&A said there’s a switch at the bottom to reverse direction.

I don’t see a screen though.

yes, but the image in that Q&A reply that shows the switches pictures switches that are not mentioned or shown in any of the product photos or descriptions, and if you read further it seems that is an old version of the fan from a few years ago. someone would have to have eyes-on whatever stock woot has to say which version it was.

we have holmes window fans too (though not with the thermostat) and when i bought them (not from woot) they were “reversible” which was important to me…turns out that meant “you can physically remove them from the window, turn them around, and put them back in” lmao. and it seems this is commonplace now, which is a bummer. not sure why they are doing away with the switches that were such an asset.

(btw no screens in the fan because your window is what should provide the screen for these. you put the fan up against the screen and close the glass part of the window down on it. come to think of it, have never seen a fan with a screen built in. interesting idea tho for older homes that may not have screens.)

The advantage with these is a better seal in double-hung windows. I.e., you don’t necessarily need to move as much air when it’s ALL being brought in from outside.

Thanks anyway, decided against after reading recent reviews…

ASIDE THE RABBITHOLE ©️comaSpiel

Companies seem to have eroded both CS & QA while Mgmt DIY payday cashouts till business is bankrupt; only discovered after everyone’s left.

How many years ago did a few decide, it seems nearly collectively, to purposefully abuse brand loyalty built-up over decades by their predecessors of CEO/mgmt & owners?

The one that bothers me most is the dual greed factor enacting multiple price increases in short order AND lowering product quality &/or quantity at the same time.

Sold out now, but observations about these dual fan Holmes window models…

In our case we use a standard box fan in an upstairs window to move big volume, blowing outward + some open windows downstairs + one of these Holmes fans in a window in our downstairs bedroom sucking air inward.

  • We had a “digital/electronic” Holmes and it eventually failed after 2-3 years. So we replaced it with a mechanical switch version, that includes a dial temperature control… and that one has outlasted the initial one, continuing to run strong. Seems like power spikes, more frequent in the summer, might have killed the first one.

  • It is true these smaller fans do not move the same amount of air as a standard box fan, even a cheap one.

  • Some of the windows in our bedroom are too small for a standard box fan so these dual fan models work great.

  • We regularly use the individual fan reverse functions, sometimes together, sometimes opposite each other to circulate fresh air into a room without opening other windows.

  • Physically reversing the fan frame puts the controls on the outside. With typical box fans, the controls are on the top, so reversing the physical fan frame keeps the controls accessible.

Bottom line, in typical cheap/frugal Woot customer fashion, we minimize AC use by cooling the home at night with fans. Often eliminates need to run AC at night and delays the need to run AC for part of the day if we promptly close up the home as the outside temp rises to match the inside temp in the morning/mid-day. Of course in particularly humid weather and when the outside temps do not fall at night, this strategy can be counter-productive for comfort since it takes some time for the AC to remove humidity inside the home.

fwiw, even though i have to physically reverse mine, the holmes window fans i have have the controls on both sides so you still have access no matter which way you face them.

Compact two fan models like this one? BTW, this Woot one does not have controls duplicated on front and back.

I haven’t found any that duplicate the controls on both front and back. Links?

Boom! That’s not Holmes, but OK.

And the individual fans do not appear to be reversible to circulate air in and out from a single window. Also, no thermostatic control to shut it off when the room reaches comfortable temp.

This is the one we have and paid $35 for it before the lockdowns brought brutal inflation. We like it enough that we’d likely still pay the current $60 price for it due to its flexibility and durability.

No screen on back! I thought of that not until I recieved mine today.
Then I brainstormed   :joy:, maybe I’ll just keep my screen in the window.
