Hover-1 Electric Folding Scooter ALPHA Refurbished

Hover-1 Electric Folding Scooter ALPHA Refurbished

Would I be able to fit a U-lock through the front wheel? If not, how would I lock this?

STAY AWAY!!! Do not put yourself through what I and others went through last month on this deal. They’re refurbished by a company called iRecertify. And they’re junk.

I ordered two units, both had rear tires that could not hold air, likely a punctured tube inside tire. Incredibly time consuming to repair yourself if you don’t know what you’re doing, and no bike shops will touch them.

For the sake of testing, even with a deflated rear tire, one unit was fine power wise, the other no matter what you did- would not go over 6mph on a straight road.

I called Woot cc who offered a partial refund of $50 on each ($100 total), still not worth it. The return process was dreadful. From the time I sent back, warehouse received 48 hours later, it took me 7 phone calls and three emails to finally get my money credited back to my card fourteen days later.

Hello Wooter967480811, iRecertify here.

We truly are so sorry to hear about your experience with your order. We take great pride in our refurbishing process and we are always looking for ways to be better. We know there is always room for improvement and we love to hear from our customers, especially when it helps identify potential issues. We actually added more intensive testing for the inner tubes as a direct result of your feedback on our last deal. So, a heartfelt thank you and our sincere apologies for the issue.

As for the refund process, Woot handles that and it is unfortunately out of our control. Regardless we are sorry to hear of the delay and would love to work with you to see if there’s anything we can do to mitigate the overall negative experience.

Here is the thread from the last time this was on offer, with the posts that @Wooter967480811 was talking about:

It’s nice to hear from iRecertify on here. Thanks for posting @iRecertify. That’s a good sign.

I think the lesson here is that you might get a lemon, but you can send it back if you do, and it will probably be a hassle. If you want a scooter (or anything really) you know for sure will work right out of the box like new and you don’t want the hassle of it possibly not being up to your standards, don’t buy a recertified item. If you want a deal and don’t mind taking the risk and possible hassle of a return, refurbished can get you a lot of money off.

This scooter on Amazon goes for an average of $400. https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0835947BK
Buying recertified will save you $200 right off the top. I didn’t want to spend $400 on a scooter for the occasional joyride, but $200 was manageable. Turns out I love it and now I’m considering accessories for it.

As for the quality, mine was practically brand new when I opened the box. If I didn’t know I had order a recertified model, I wouldn’t have been able to tell it was recertified. I’m near the max weight for this scooter and it has no problem getting me to the max speed of 18 mph on flat ground. I’ve been riding it for a little over a week and it looks like my range (keep in mind how much I weigh) is between 6-7 miles on mostly flat ground in sport mode. I could see a 150 lb person getting 12 miles out of it on flat ground in the slower (non-sport) mode. Weight, hills, and speed are what affect your range the most. I don’t commute in mine, I just ride to pick up food during my lunch break and for fun around my office (I work in a nice area near a downtown and a college campus). If you are going to commute regularly and weigh a little less than me, you’ll probably be better off with one of the Segway Ninebots woot is offering. But those are 3x the price, so clearly this one is the frugal play.

To reply to @Wooter859265592, I believe the cover for the front wheel can be removed and then you can fit a U lock through it. Not 100% sure though. If I get a change to check and remove mine this weekend, I’ll let you know.
I got this kind of lock to start with.

Not very secure, but I only plan on locking mine for as long as it takes me to run into the store/restaurant to pick up lunch. I keep it inside when I’m not riding it. There are other locks out there that are not U-locks, but are stronger than the cable I got that will probably fit between the forks and wheel. I’m thinking something like this:

What is the return policy on this? Can I return whenever during a certain period of time?

Yes, indeed. 30 days.

Here’s our return policy:

Woot! FAQ

STAY AWAY and RUN as FAST as you can.

Having purchased FOUR Hover-1 folding scooters I can say without a hesitation to RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY from this company. Two have cracked welds at the up-post making them useless. One was replaced under the 90 day warranty when it fried, only for the battery of the replacement to fail a little after 90 days. Another one just fried the battery but I used the battery out of the cracked weld ones to fix. So basically I had a total of five (4 bought and one replaced under warranty) scooters and only 2 still work but only after robbing a battery from ane of the cracked weld scooters. The one on sale today is the updated versions of the one I have (Pioneer) but I am willing to bet the farm they are 99.9% the same. I have a feeling Hover-1 is using used/reclaimed batteries and their quality is non existent. I also own a Xiaomi M365 I purchased at the same time that has over 1800 miles on it and is still going strong. Save your money and get a better scooter, again I would never purchase anything made by Hover-1, their 90 day new warranty should be a clue into their lack of quality.
STAY AWAY

Given the mixed feedback, I will be interested in buying this model if an extended warranty option was available for a reasonable price.

I got this last time and it has been fine. the motor is stamped as 350W though, not 450w. it’s still enough torque that the wheel slips a little on packed dirt or gravel, but I do have to kick going up steeper hills.

it also came with an air pump, which I did not expect, and it’s actually a fairly decent little pump. it’s very difficult to get the little tires at the right pressure though, so I use my electric pump with gauge anyway.

there’s always a risk of a refub having some issue, it’s part of the change you take for the discount.

I got one last go around. The packaging was subpar and banged up pretty bad. The scooter had some scuffs on it and stripped hardware (heads not threads). Replaced the bad hardware and I’ve been using on my days off to commute about 3-4 miles a day into the city from my house. It has been working great for me. I will say the range is pretty low for me (about 7.5 miles) and it has issues going up hill but I expected that as I am at the top of the weight limit for it and probably over the limit with my backpack and gear I travel with. I’ve been enjoying it enough that I just took the plunge and got a more professional scooter to rip around. I plan to give this one to my daughter. All in all for $199 I’m tickled pink with it.

Hi billpanop!

iRecertify here; We are a totally separate entity from Hover-1 but the authorized refurbishing partner for them. A huge benefit of our business model is that through expert refurbishing, we can provide the manufacturer data on common issues. That means Hover-1 can improve upon their designs with real feedback like never before. We have already provided Hover-1 and many of our other partners with useful information that they have used to refine their designs. We can personally attest the Alpha is much better than the Pioneer. We totally understand where you are coming from and are glad you found a scooter that worked for you! Happy scootin’!

Hey @NYCMediaMix, Woot actually does offer an extended warranty option through Asurion. You can see the details at the bottom of the listing here. They are very affordable, especially considering they cover the product for 2 years!

I hear a constant scraping where the break is on my scooter and the breaks are extremely loud to the point of embarrassment when using the breaks in public. I regret this buy off woot.

You’ve got a 90 day Woot warranty. Better reach out to CS.

Hi there, if you haven’t already done so please reach out to Woot! Customer Service.

Im writing this incase they go onsale again. I guess i should have been happy, when I opened the box there was a note that i was upgraded to verion to for free. The only problem is that My son wanted a version 1. Version 1 is rear wheel drive with disc brakes. V2 is front wheel drive with drum brakes. They took the fun and sportiness out of it. I was going to return it but woot would charge me for return fees. We decided to keep it. But we weren’t exited about it. It stayed in the box for months. We finally pulled it out 2 days ago and it was a disappointment. It has not broken. But it is slow. Not a 450 watt motor. Not even close. We have an old 250 watt scooter and it runs circles around this. It aslo does not feel as stable as other scooters. Feels cheap. My only woot purchase im not happy with. I should have returned it even if we had to pay return fees.
