How old were you when you got your first cell phone?
I want to say 13? It was a pink flip phone and I felt absolutely amazing. Alas, we were too poor to get the cool Razr phones, but this was next best thing.
@Woot Do you not know your demographic?
I’ll let you know when I get one
I think around 15 because I was going out on a school trip and it was for my security.
Me and my dad each got Moto razors form a really great deal in like 2005, I think? And while they were cool and all, they just weren’t as useful or as cool as you would think they would be.
But they were really cool looking.
Well, I was born in a small town
And I live in a slightly larger town…
Back in that small town, one had to drive 30-40 miles to anything. Junior college and employment was down that highway surround by woods and fields. It was woods and fields until pop… city. Mom felt a cellphone was in order for family but assigned to me when out of town. It was a TracFone. It had snakes on it…
Side thought: My mind overlaps Mellencamp’s Small Town and Jack & Diane. Are they basically the same musical arrangement and just change of a few lyrics? Supposed it works for him
Ironically, I got my newest one yesterday.
I got a pager when I was in 7th or 8th grade. When I was a freshman I got a cell phone.
Beepers/pagers were the only thing available in my teens so it has to be 20-30 years old. I remember it was an Audiovox phone with PrimeCo who ended up becoming T-Mobile
Age plays a huge factor in this poll. I got my first cell phone when I was 16. It was very large, and I’m not sure phones back then could even send text messages. I had just earned my driver’s license, and my parents wanted a way to keep in touch with me in case of emergency. There was really no one else to call on a cell phone. I’d just use the house phone if I wanted to hang out with friends or call their houses. I’m sure many here were older than I was when they got their first cell phone even if they got it in the same year 1999.
This is a completely idiotic poll, even by unscientific standards.
First, you don’t take the respondent’s year of birth into account. If you were already over 30 when cell phones first were available, even if you were an early adapter you would appear to be a late adapter who took their time getting one. Unless you are running this data by age information already collected when signing up for this service, this is in a vacuum and pretty much pointless.
Second, there are ages they are in multiple choices. If I’m 20 years old, which line do I assign myself to?
Good work, Woot! Thanks for contributing to why people don’t trust market research!
I was in my 40’s when I got my first cellphone.
I always carried change for pay phones before.
All Woot polls are idiotic.
Probably 19 or 20, college and in my own somewhat
Whenever it was, it wasn’t a significant event in my life where I remember my age. I don’t even remember what my age was when I got my first smart phone. But I’m sure I was old, really, really old.
