Peppermint Patty was the -only- Peanuts character to ever call Charlie Brown “Chuck”.
I’m sure the artist maybe meant well, and we all need to make a living, but this is pure ‘cringe’ as the kids say.
“Pure cringe”
The people voted. The shirt printed.
Seriously? It’s just a play on words with the name. Both Chuck and Luke are both one syllable words which end on hard “K” sounds. One isn’t supposed to analyze why the “Round-headed Kid” is called a particular name based on the content of the original comic strip. The shirt is a Star Wars parody!
I, on the other hand, have a more serious question? Why is it necessary to have a separate forum for each individual item of these particular sales, when we’re just talking about the aesthetics of the design? If we just had the design topic for the items, we could talk about the clothes, if necessary. Will somebody from Woot! now have to go to the other items just to repost all of the stuff we’re discussing here? Aren’t these wonderful people working too hard as it is?
Just sayin’
No problem with the “Chuck”, but the bigger problem is re-enforcing the mistaken and misquoted line. Vader never said “Luke, I am your father”.
To be accurate to the movie, Snoopy should be saying: “No, I am your beagle”.
Um… Parody.
And now for the comedy part…
If we go with your accurate line, people would then believe that the name of the “Round-headed Kid” was “No.”
It’s a t-shirt. Not a historical dissertation about a fiction movie.
Yeah, but the whole point of the forums is to be able to make it a dissertation about a fictional movie.
Parody is fine, but the quote from the movie is wrong, the context from ‘Peanuts’ is wrong, and cutting off ones owners hand with a lightsaber would be far worse than ‘biting the hand that feeds you’.
I’m not one to comment on the tshirts, and the one I got from Woot! once is very soft and comfy, but there was just so much wrong with this one I was compelled to say something. Sorry if I came across as humourless and/or dour, but as both a SW and (more of a) Peanuts fan this really didn’t work for me.
Now, “No, I am your Beagle” is pretty funny.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, cheers
You just have to sit back sometimes and see how other people interpret stuff like this. If this was a remake of the Star Wars movie, I might understand getting the line correct. If this was actually a Peanuts strip, I might understand why cutting the owner’s hand off would be in bad taste. However… this is merely somebody’s art. Art is interpreted by the viewer. In this case, you aren’t happy with it for all the reasons you’ve described. It doesn’t mean that it’s not art because you don’t like it. It’s just art you don’t like. That’s it. That’s what the forums are about, so you can express why you do or don’t like it.
Let’s just respect everyone’s opinion, and allow the artist to make his or her own interpretation as he or she sees fit. Luckily, nobody is forcing anybody to buy the product. Taste is taste.
Well this is really going to cause Pungent’s noodle to have a melt down.
There’s a very bad joke in there about making a sandwich and missing the plate, but I can’t quite work it out.
Fantastic pic tho, thanks!
