iRobot Roomba Robotic Vacuum

The little cleaning tool looks like a feathered comb.

What would thrill me, woot-wise, would be a sale on Roomba batteries. I’ve discovered that if you pack up your Roomba and leave the battery in it, it becomes completely useless after five days and you have to buy another battery. No, the “reset” instructions don’t work. You gotta buy a new battery.

Other than that, they’re great on pet hair and for amusing your non-Roomba-owning friends.

I concur. As many roombas that they sell, they need to do a two for tuesday on roomba batteries, both this version and the 500 series. Perhaps roomba parts as well, brush assembly, ect.

Amazon has it at $259.95.

One review: 4 stars

The price difference must be in shipping costs. Texas is a lot closer than the almighty Amazon.

If you can’t figure out a way to live harmoniously with a Roomba, then you can’t figure out a way to live harmoniously, period.

Seriously, these gizmos vacuum the floor for you. How hard is that to integrate into your pathetic existence?

[Mod: let’s keep it friendly, please]

If you want to be hardcore about this, wait for a 500 series to come back around.

Robots and Androids(dot com) has a report on the batteries:

http://www.robots-and-androids.com/roomba-batteries.html

and repairs:

http://www.robots-and-androids.com/roomba-repair.html

Why do the model numbers differ on Woot and the iRobot site? This one is 440, but the product site lists it as 435?

How can Woot sell so many of these?
[/quote]

After a while you would think that Woot would figure out that the Roomba SUCKS!

I love Roombas, yet if they get too dusty (and they are darn hard to clean) they stop cleaning and go infinitely in circles. This is called the “Circle Dance.” (Explained here: Roomba - Wikipedia)

“The Circle Dance”

’Bots can dance if they want to,
’Bots will leave your ‘droids behind.
Cause your ‘droids don’t dance,
And if they don’t dance,
Well they’re no friends of mine.

‘Bots can go where they want to,
A place where we’ll never find,
And ‘Bots can act like they come from out of this world,
Leave the real one far behind.
‘Bots can dance!

‘Bots can go where they want to,
The night is dark and so am I.
And ‘Bots can dress real neat,
From their claws to their feet,
And surprise us with a beeping cry.

‘Bots can act if they want to,
If ‘Bots don’t nobody will.
And ‘Bots can act real rude,
And totally removed,
And can act like imbeciles.

I say, ‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance,
Everything is out of control!
‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance,
They’re doing it from wall to wall!
‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance,
Everybody look at your 'droids!
‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance!
They dance on asteroids!

The Circle dance
‘Bots will Circle dance
Yes, the Circle dance

‘Bots can dance if they want to.
‘Bots have got all your life and mine.
As long as they abuse it,
Never gonna lose it,
Everything will work out right.

I say, ‘Bots can dance if we let them,
‘Bots can leave your ‘droids behind.
Cause your ‘droids don’t dance,
And if they don’t dance,
Well, they’re no friends of mine.

‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance,
Everything is out of control!
‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance,
They’re doing it from wall to wall!
‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance,
Everybody look at your 'droids!
‘Bots can dance, ‘Bots can dance!
They dance on asteroids!

They Circle Dance!
‘Bots will Circle Dance!
Yes, they Circle Dance!

I have both the Roomba and a Scooba and love them both! Push the button on the Roomba before going to bed and wake up with nicely vacuumed floors. It doesn’t get any better than that!

I AGREE! We have only the lowly Dirt Dog Roomba shop sweeper - no vacuum - and LOVE it. 8 yo daughter gets everything up - cords and other potential entanglements - and we set it to go at night. Whala (sp)? swept floors by morning! (We have only throw rugs, no carpeting)

My iRobot 530 just died. I bought it refurbished from Woot last year. I called iRobot and got no help at all. They said it was out of warranty (90 days) and they would give me 20% off a new one. No thanks. What a waste.

For goodness sake then, buy this one! The odds of getting two lemons is minuscule. Even if it lasts a year, that’s only ten bucks a month, less than three bucks a week, to keep your floors clean and to provide endless entertainment for your cat or monkey should you have one or both!

The dirtiest place in the house is beside and behind the Roomba!

I’ve gotten 2 refurbished roombas from woot, and they both died within a few months of each purchase (far under a year each). Admittedly, I never got them shipped off before the warrenty was expired, which is totally my fault (so I can’t speak to how well they fix them under warrenty), but I’ve gotten 2 lemons in a row. Which is too bad, becuase I love them for as long as they work.

Worry not, Mondu, because we still love you even if you are minuscule.

The odds of getting three lemons…

LOL

Buy this one Mondu, it’s new.

I’ve been dreaming of owning a Roomba but I have a perfectly fine upright Hoover. When it dies, I’m definitely going Roomba…and darn, i vacuumed just today!

Sorry. No refurb batteries, so no Woots. :frowning:

Do these work with a charging station? I know it doesn’t come with one but if I buy a charging station, would this roomba detect it and charge itself?

Also, whats the best place to get good replaceable Roomba batteries?

I bought my 530 from Woot and it started doing the circle dance after two wonderful years of service. The last three months without my Roomba have been so lonely. I don’t even want to know how many dust bunnies or hairballs have been collecting under my bed. I’m definately going to buy another 530 when it pops up again.
