Ivation Portable Outdoor Shower

Ivation Portable Outdoor Shower

“Please note, may include an AC plug instead of a USB connector…” - watt??

[MOD: Per the vendor, it comes with a USB cable for charging but does not include the wall adapter.]

If you’re out in the woods an AC outlet might not be nearby unless you have an adapter in your car

I have one of these. Excellent instant shower for any reason! Remember to remove the bottom of the motor/battery area to clean the “built-in filtration” filter. It can get gross. And don’t put it in hot water. It has a battery after all.

Or generator or back-up battery with an outlet.

I have one (identical but different brand) and my only dislike is the on-off switch is on the pump instead of the shower head. I know the complexity would increase and longevity would reduce to have the switch on the shower head but they could have an on-off valve or something. Other then that it’s great, extremely handy for music festivals. One charge usually lasts the weekend.

What? No choice of power source? Is this a manufacturing “Whoops” :face_with_hand_over_mouth: on WOOT??? Washing our feet off after a beach visit will include dunking our feet in the bucket of water like we did before the shower was in my cart? Please Clarify. …and I thank you.

It doesn’t need to be plugged in to work. The wall charger or the usb cord is only to recharge the battery.

(Please Note: I’m not employed by Woot, but I volunteer to help in the forums.)

The plugin/USB is just for charging. If you’re going to be using it out “in the bush” you probably will have available either way to charge. Both of which will work off of your car.

If you’re going deeper and hiking in, this thing is very impractical and you probably don’t want to be lugging it around.

You can probably just take a bath in the river with the bears and beavers.

A clean beaver is a great indicator of a good camping area.

You know, I almost didn’t post that because of the crazies that would happen…poor little beaver animals

At least we don’t have to worry about them getting soap in their eyes.

It’s a battery powered device. It needs to be charged beforehand.

How long can I shower? Using a 2.5 gallon bucket of water, you can get approximately 7 to 8 minutes of use. This is plenty of time to wet, wash and rinse your hair and soap up and rinse off your body. A helpful tip is to turn off the device while you’re actively washing. This allows you to conserve more water and energy. If you use a 5-gallon bucket with this method, you’ll likely have over 10 minutes of continuous use.

Back on the product itself…. like most of these Amazon-sold camping shower gadgets, there are many brands that appear to be the same product, perhaps in different colors. We have two of these orange Ivation shower pumps. We got solid deals several years ago when they were apparently realigning inventory.

We’ve tried several models and brands. This model seems to be the most durable so far after many summers of camping off grid. We keep one charged up as a backup.

It is true, putting the button on the pump itself is a pain - and you’re not supposed to run it dry so that means leaving it partially submerged whilst turning it on and off. Note: most folks can do a comfortable shower with a paint pail of 4+ gallons of water if you only turn on the water to wet and rinse.

Power switch on the cord, away from the pump - Ivation also sells a model like this with a 12 volt power car plug. Much more convenient. But we went thru two of those and only got 2-5 uses before water intrusion corroded the motors.

We also tried a model with the battery and power switch remotely hanging off the hose, out of the water. It didn’t even work the first use.

Camping shower quality (satisfaction) is a mix of acceptable water flow (but not so fast that your 5 gallon paint fail runs out of water) + water temperature + shelter. Get a shower tent - not only for the obvious privacy issues, but also for comfort. That tent slows skin evaporation so comfortable showers can be had in 50° F temps. And bug control.

We have found this Ivation pump has no trouble with 110° F water. Although most of us prefer 100-105° F for camping showers. We use one of those big (2 gallon?) aluminum stew pots(edit) that were designed to put right in the fire to heat a gallon or two of water to at least 140° F and then mix that with ambient temp water, measuring the temp with a kitchen thermometer.

We get at least 4-6 showers per charge.

How was it for keeping the beavers clean?

When I’m out there amongst the Red Oaks, I find it beneficial to have clean beavers nearby.

Unless the packaging has changed since we bought, I’ll confirm that. Standard USB at one end and a proprietary barrel connector at the pump end.

Had this for years and still is going strong with limited use.
