Kindle Paperwhite Manga 32GB 6" E-Reader

WOOhoo been waiting for this one for a while

A sharpened pencil for size reference?

What’s the difference between this “Manga” version and the US version?

Also, does it come with free cellular conection the US verion has?

Nevermind: I dig deeper, and found the answer. It is wifi only, but it as larger storage than US standard version

But to clarify, that is only if you buy the “3G Paperwhite”. Doesn’t so much have to do with it being a U.S. versions. They do not all come with a free cell connection.

Does anyone know if this one would fit in the cases for the regular Paperwhite? Measurements appear the same & I can’t find any cases for the Manga version.
Thanks,
Rosie

According to reviews that I read, the external dimensions are the same as the regular paperwhite and it fits in the same cases. The main difference is much more storage.

Also, 33% faster page turning.

I love my Wooted Fires, but I must admit that reading on a regular Kindle is less “distracting.” Kind of the opposite of the distraction-free writing craze.

I wouldn’t drive a car around with a pizza delivery cone on the roof for a $20 savings. So why would I carry around Amazon ads for years with no way to stop it for $20. I simply resent being manipulated for a couple of bucks. Its the reason I bought a very nice Nook with a backlit display.

The ads are only on the lock screen. Unlock/wake the device, the ads go away.

I have a normal (blacklit) paperwhite (refurbished) and I paid probably close to the same. If only this deal had been going on when I purchased mine.

I will say, as an avid paper book lover, the paperwhite has totally changed my mind. Easy on the eyes.

Not really a valid analogy. More like you got a 20% savings on your car because every time you started it, you saw a Toyota (whoever) ad flash on the radio screen for half a second.

So, 21 hours of use per charge, with wifi turned off.

Here is a good review of the manga version of the paperwhite.

A new Paperwhite Manga sells for ¥16,280 ($153 at today’s exchange rate), but can’t be shipped to the US anyway, so add the price of a trans-shipper, making the total around $170-180. The markup for the extra storage and faster page turns is almost $19, so if you could get one here, it would cost about $139.

As long as the “minor cosmetic blemishes” aren’t bad, this is actually a pretty good deal. Since it is an Amazon refurb, it would be nice to get an actual Amazon warranty, but, oh well.

You actually can stop it. Once you register the device to your account, you can opt to pay the difference between the ad supported and non-ad supported versions, and Amazon will stop displaying ads on your lock screen.

Amazon will only stop displaying ads on your lock screen because it only EVER displays ads on your lock screen. Amazon always optimizes the reading experience of the e-ink kindles over everything else.

Since you couldn’t buy this in the US (I don’t think) does that mean these refurbs are from Japan? I’d like one but I’m cautious about the condition…“good” is very subjective. But if it came from Japan that would up the “otaku” factor for me.

I wish you could buy these new in the US somehow. And I’m assuming these would work fine with manga purchased from amazon US?

What would be funny is if you received it and the language was set to Japanese by default.

DOES THIS HAVE BLUE TOOTH? So visually impaired options are available?

At the very least can we get a model number and/or current firmware?

I want to buy for a visually impaired person - Amazon allows some kindles to read through a headphone adapter or Bluetooth speaker when those options are enabled.

This is the ONLY thing keeping me from pulling the trigger now.

Woot staff? What say you?
