128GB SSD is on sale there

An OK deal. BUT If you’re willing to spend a little more (and you have a membership) Costco has the newer generation with same ram and SSD, but also has win 11, newer processor, type cover, surface pen and most importantly a brand new battery.

Yes, it is $400 more. But the pen and type cover are worth almost $200. So for an extra $200, you get a slightly better processor, New Os, brand new machine, brand new battery. You also get a 2 year warranty.

If you don’t have an extra 400,this is a pretty good machine and not a bad price.

The Costco deal that starts on November 25th is the best thing coming up. It’s a Surface Pro 7+, i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, with type cover and pen for $799. That gets you the same 11th Gen CPU as the Surface Pro 8, Windows 10 PRO, and the ability to swap out the SSD.

This is the deal I was referencing.

Yours is significantly cheaper… but that 128 gb SSD is rough. I have no idea how easy it is to swap the SSD on these things. I’m guessing it’s not a cake walk considering the compact form factor. Then you’d have to get the OS onto the new SSD. I could do it. I’m guessing you might be able to do it. But I have a feeling the average user might not want to take that on.

The SSD has a little door, and there’s one screw, Google it. Restoring Windows is so easy, and there are tons of videos out there. I bought a Surface Pro 8 with an i5, 16GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD directly from Microsoft, I returned it after two weeks. I’ve owned every Surface Pro version except the Surface Pro 7, and MS made it larger and made the SP8 out of aluminum which made it significantly heaver, and harder to use as a tablet. I think the Surface Pro 7+ that will be on Costco is a great combination of features, the 11th Gen CPUs and replaceable SSD the same as the SP8 make it a bargain. Of course with the SP7+ you get Windows PRO instead of home, and including the keyboard and pen for $799 is tough to beat.

Thanks for the info about the SSD door! I might have to replace this old HP laptop…

Just to be really clear: You can easily replace the storage on the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Pro 7+, but NOT the Surface Pro 7, which is what’s on sale here.

That is correct. The first Surface tablet that had the replaceable (without removing the screen) SSD was the Surface Pro X. The Surface Pro 7+ and Surface Pro 8 use the same 2230 NVME drive as the Surface Pro X. By the way, you can get 1TB 2230 SSDs on eBay for a little over $100.
