We keep a box of Duncan Hines cake mix in the cabinet & use that for mug cakes when there is no cake or junk food in the house & you just need that bit of chocolate or whatever flavor of cake you need for a craving. Works good, just pour some mix straight from the box into a mug, add water & stir it up to your thickness then microwave it for 60 seconds. Don’t even need to add anything else. Fill it with maybe 1 inch of mix & you get a half cup of cake. Also have put some raspberry jam in the center before nuking for a jelly filled treat. A box of cake mix is $1 - $2 & it’ll keep for a long time in a ziplock.

I agree, sort of. Our local grocer has the Betty Crocker box of 4 packets of mug cakes for under $4, or when on sale they will be $2.49 - $2.99 range. We get those just for the convenience of not needing to measure, and everything comes out even. I’m not sure what “Molly” puts in her mix, but (IMHO) I’m quite certain there is nothing in there to make them worth 5 or 6 times the major brand varieties - other than possible “snob factor”?
Yeah i never understood why these are so expensive. I tried the Betty Crocker single serve ones when they first came out & they tasted exactly the same as regular boxed mixes. I guess you are getting unique flavors to try, but still the price $$$$
Thanks Esteemed Wooters for the tips
Never too old to learn something new and useful.
I purchased the amaretto and the chocolate peppermint ones and they are pretty good. The ingredients are mostly clean, which is a plus. They are a little more expensive than other mixes, but I found them to be pretty tasty.
