Comes with a power cord? I’m in. Just hope it isn’t an HP.

has anyone ever actually bought one of these mystery laptops? get anything good? $270 is a lot to pay for a chromebook.

Doesn’t “laptop” generally indicate PC, as opposed to Chromebook?

This part here under the specs means it’s not a Chromebook:

They list minimums specs that you’ll receive. For the ~$270 they’re asking, it’s really only an okay deal if you get lucky with the i7, 512GB/1TB storage, and 32GB of RAM. For ~$30 more on Amazon proper, you can guarantee that you get something on the higher end like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Latitude-5410-Laptop-i7-10610U/dp/B095MH1S3Y

At minimum, you should expect to receive the following:

• Intel Core i5 10th Gen CPU or better - 70% of customers will receive an i5 10th gen or newer; 30% of customers will receive an i7 10th gen or better
• 13.1" HD Display (1366 x 768 resolution) - 95% of customers will receive a Full HD (1920 x 1080) display. 45% of customers will receive a 13" screen, 45% of customers will receive a 14.0" screen and 10% will receive a 15.6" screen.
• At least 8GB of DDR4-2400 Memory (Supports up to 32GB) - 10% of customers will receive 8GB of RAM, 50% of customers will receive 16GB of RAM, 40% will receive 32GB.
• At least 256GB SSD Storage - 45% of customers will receive at least 256GB storage, 45% of customers will receive at least 512GB storage,10% of customers will receive at least 1TB storage.
• Integrated 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1
• Integrated HD Webcam
• Genuine Windows 11 Pro 64-Bit OS

Let’s put it this way: would you spend $270 on a 13" 1366x768 laptop with a U-series 10th-gen i5 and 8GB of RAM? If not, then why gamble?

Here is a Newegg search showing laptops that beat the bottom specs – minimum i5 10th gen, minimum 1080p display, minimum 16GB RAM, minimum 256GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro. There are about 7 that come in cheaper than the $270 asking price here, and if you don’t need Windows Pro, there are plenty more. As always, I’m not endorsing Newegg as a vendor, just showing you what’s out there for your money if you’re willing to put in the legwork and shop around. These “gamble” deals are almost never worth it.

It’s got Windows 11 pro on it. It’s not a chromebook

And here I was hoping it’s not a Dell. My HP from 2010 is still chugging along. maxed out it’s ram w/8gb. Installed a 1tb SSD and it’s not too much a slouch running Win 7. Win 10, little slower but still gets the job done. Running SDR software and controlling my telescope.

I’ve had excellent experiences with HP when I buy them new, but the 2 or 3 returns I’ve purchased have failed in shortly after the warranty periods.

My laptop buying philosophy is to go used but buy a business-grade model, not the cheap consumer models. It has generally served me well.

I did once get a Dell where the screen was dying, but it happened within 90 days so I got a replacement.

I’ve got one that I use for business stuff and it started to do the blinking caps lock light so I would have to restart it and it would do it again after a few days. The HP software was EOL anyway so I disabled it on startup and set its services tab to “manual” and it works fine now. Knock on wood…

Thank you SO much for the heads up on the Dell laptop that Amazon has for $30 more. You really helped people like me who aren’t very techy. I did notice Amazon has two Dell laptops for about the same amount. Dell 7490 and Dell 5410. I’ll have to see which one is better. Thx again. Cat

Now I wish I would have waited before buying it, but it came with a power cord! How was I supposed to say no to that? :face_exhaling: I hope it’s G5 that’s a good power cord!

Just got mine. I did well. Got the Dell Latitude 5420 with 11th gen i7, 14” touchscreen (yes, touchscreen)

32 gb ram and 512 ssd. I really like the built-in WiFi 6 and Bluetooth. Looks close to new. I see some very small, almost invisible scratches on the bottom. I can stop worrying now.

I got a Lenovo Thinkpad 13 gen 1. Slowest processor, smallest screen, smallest hard drive. This is my 2nd time gambling, and my 2nd time losing. My new laptop is $40.00 cheaper on Amazon and comes with an i7 processor instead of of the i5. Oh well, it will serve my purposes. At least it’s not an HP.
