(NEW) AOLON Curve 2.01" Smart Watch Fitness Tracker

I’m going to give this watch a try because I’ve been considering a smartwatch that tracks steps and exercise but don’t want to break my bank account. I figure I can’t really lose at only $15, which is a great deal since these are on the Mothership from two sellers for $46 and $30 respectively. Great deal if it works out for me; not much of a loss if it doesn’t!

The app you have to load is “DA FIT” (which you can get from the app store for free, to look at). It was a deal-killer for the last “smart watch” I tried here. The user agreement for that software has a whole list of odd conditions with fees and fines involved. “Buyer Beware” & maybe it won’t be a problem for you…

I didn’t find the EULA on the DA FIT app to be any more onerous than those on nearly every other app I already use, even from companies I already have a long history with. What I did find was a second, more up-to-date app called DA FIT PRO, which I tried but will not work with this watch. The DA FIT app also said there should be ads, but I don’t see a single one anywhere on it.

As for the watch, it is working extremely well. It tracks HR and O2 reasonably well and within a few points of my other monitors. The weather reporting is just fine but it only updates every few hours so it is not instantaneous. I set the watch to receive notifications from the weather app on my phone which is updated much more frequently.

This watch can receive notifications from a number of common apps on my phone but I turned off the email notifications as it flooded my notification que. It can also integrate with Google Fit and other fitness apps so the step counter tracks well enough. There are a lot of available choices for the watch face, but it took a lot of looking to find one that clearly displayed all the info I wanted to see at a glance. The controls and menu layouts are fine (although a bit tough with fat fingers…) and the interface is very responsive with a large, bright screen. So far the only phone control I have used is to disconnect incoming calls that I didn’t want to answer.

There is one feature I had to shut off - the one where the face would turn on when the watch sensed it being raised and turned towards you to look at it. It was turning on all the time even when I wasn’t going to look at it which left the screen active. This allowed the menus to open and selections made if there were any incidental touches like from brushing the watch face against your body or clothes. It quickly got to be irritating so I just turned it off in the app.

Overall, this is a great watch if you just want to dip a toe in the water and see what a smart watch is all about, and at $15 it is a heckava deal.

I am giving this watch a shot, I miss having a “smart” watch. I know with the low price point I might be in for a crazy time with it.

I’ve using this watch for exactly 2 months now and it still works like new. The battery lasts a week and I’ve managed to figure out how most everything works, change the settings to what I prefer, and shut off what I don’t use. The only issue I had was it lost the link with my phone twice it by disconnecting and reconnecting it in the app it links right back up no problem. The price has since dropped to $10 so if you are interested in trying a basic smart watch this is a good option and a great value.

It’s doing the job, there are connection issues from time to time.

Don’t waste your time with this watch.
The Strava integration doesn’t work, and it only shares step counts with Google Fit, not any other activity.
Worst of all, the watch completely died after 6 months. The listing states “AOLON Promise: We proudly stand firmly behind all of our products without reservation and we offer unparalleled 2 year quality support.” but this is a lie, there’s no support whatsoever.

Well, it came with a 90-day Woot warranty. Sometimes manufacturers don’t want to honor their warranty if items are sold through a 3rd party. Still a bummer though, thanks for letting others know.

(Please Note: I’m not employed by Woot, but I volunteer to help in the forums.)

I’m not sure you’ll see this, but does it receive RCS text notifications? I got another cheap on once and it only received notification for SMS but not RCS. So anything SMS via google message would ping the watch fine, but any RCS ones would not, thus missing most of the ones from my family etc…

Since I use the very latest version of the Google Messages app on my phone and the watch receives notifications for all the text messages I receive, my presumption is that it does so for both SMS and RCS. Several notifications (such as 2-factor ID numbers and such sent via text) say something like ‘sensitive information, view on phone only’, so there is that. Neither will the watch display images or videos sent via RCS, just a similar notice saying to view on the phone.
