Does anyone know if this thing has to be plugged in all the time or can it be operated sans the plug-in??

Hello. It doesn’t have a battery if that’s what you’re asking. It needs to be plugged into a wall outlet.

The newer version is about $20 more.

I have this model and I have to say, it is pretty good. I also have a couple Marshalls and this holds it’s own against them. Loud, crisp, clean and pretty good looking too.
