Philips ShoqBox 512MB MP3 Personal Sound System

Have you resolved this issue yet? MUSICMATCH

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Got mine, dead. Reset button worked but there was no display at all. After updating the firmware the device did not power up again.

Have had mine for over a week and its working just fine. I guess I got lucky.

Ours was DOA, but responded to a firm press of the reset. However, it locked up several times after that (the display would be frozen at some random time on the clock). Today it won’t come back even with a reset.

If it didn’t lock up (and if you load music without Musicmatch) it’d be okay.

DOA as well. Tried reset button - nope… Tried again, harder. Nope. Finally tried to drive ballpoint pen through body of device through the reset button hole. That worked. Now listening to “No Money No Honey” preloaded song and about to install freeware Shoqbox Buddy software. Very glad to’ve found this thread.

We generally recommend going through the manufacturer’s support process, and a copious amount of Googling before you contact Woot for a return. If all else fails, though, email rma@woot.com with your order number and a description of the problem. Note that we may not have any more in stock, so a refund may be the only option.

I went through the same routine as the rest of you and mine is working fine now.
I updated the firmware which as well as solving the “failure to power on with a very dead battery” issue, it addresses some other issues. I recommend updating yours.

I tried both Shoqbox Buddy and Pandora’s Shoqbox and after using both, I will be uninstalling Shoqbox Buddy. It works okay, but Pandora’s Shoqbox is far superior. It automatically re-encodes and optimizes all MP3s so you can fit a lot more into the 512MB space this thing has. It also opens MUCH faster. The Shoqbox Buddy seems to have to read each and every song as it opens and it does this very s-l-o-w-l-y.

Great w00t. I plan to use this on my motorcycle. I wish I bought more.

I had to push the reset REALLY hard too. In fact, the ball point pen I was using just punched a lil hole in the cover- DOH. But it is working and sounds great.

My device does not power up and to a make matters worse. customer care @ phillips told me that i need to fax my woot receipt inorder to get a 90 warranty upon their approval of the receipt. I am about to just throw the device woot the window.

Did you read any of the earlier posts?

Is anyone having a problem with the clock freezing when the power adaptor is plugged in? I have to keep punching the reset button.

I’m afraid to try to use this thing as an alarm clock since it seems to freeze after about an hour of being plugged in.

I’ve downloaded the latest firmware and once even did a restore.

Otherwise this baby rocks!!!

I haven’t noticed it. I think this thing is designed to run off the battery anyway. You just have to plug it in for recharging. I have noticed that when it is fully charged I get a buzzing sound when I play the radio. I think this means the charger doesn’t shut off automatically and the battery is probably overheating somewhat. The overheating of the battery may be causing the need for a reset. That is my best guess on the situation.

My wife has been using it for an alarm clock and playing it about 2 hours a day for the past 4 days and hasn’t had to recharge yet. The battery seems to last a long time.

1st thing, Plug it in. Secondly, you will most likely have to reset it. Use a stylus or a ballpoint pen. Push hard and you can here it click. Then hold the power button for a few secs and it should turn on.
That is not even your main problem. I spent at least 10 hours trying to ad songs and no luck. It says it is full but nothing was showing up. I read a comment about ShoqBox Buddy and I googled it and downloaded the free download. Moved my music to my desk top and dragged the songs into the shoqbox buddy while my unit was connected via usb and it worked fantastic. Thanks a bunch for whoever helped me and I hope these step by step instructions help someone else.
Lets woot off!

Got mine - worked fine out of the box, put my own songs on it with the Shoqbox Buddy. Then the next day It’s dead - won’t turn on with power adapter or not. I tried the reset button and I definitely heard it click MANY times… the reset button is all black from all the ballpoint pen and such. I tried a toothpick, paper clip, pens… nothing worked. It won’t even turn on. Reset button doesn’t even give me a white screen flash. It doesn’t register on my computer when I plug in the USB cable either.

Any ideas? I really liked this thing when it was working…

I finally opened mine up after being away on a trip and I have to say a few things:
1- This thing is great! Smaller than I expected, but cuter and better-designed, too.
2 - Thanks for the advice about the reset button everyone. Knowing that information in advance was really helpful
3 - The shoqbox buddy software is swell. I didn’t bother installing musicmatch. I can drag songs out of itunes straight into the device. Yes it’s at 1.0 speeds, but so what
4 - I’m looking forward to bringing this on some longer bike rides I’ll be doing in the next few days.
5 - If this comes up again, you should buy one! A perfect picnic-for-two music companion for the summer!

Mine works great - except - when on the charger it will lock up.

Bought it for a vacation night time music box, so I have to plug in to the power in the morning to charge, unplug and reset before bed, and it plays fine until the battery runs down.

On the charger it will lock up if turned on or off.

An update: I contacted Philips, they wanted me to fax my receipt, but I asked if I could email it instead. I forwarded my confirmation email from woot, they updated my warranty and gave me a RMA# to send it back for repair or replacement. Only lame thing is I have to pay for return shipping, they will be getting a letter to customer service about that crappy policy (why should I pay for their broken thing–I didn’t break it), but I can deal. I’ll let you know how the return and replacement goes.

When I received my unit, it would not turn on. A quick call to Philips led me to reset the unit through a pinhole in the back. After that, all was well.

The unit is a little bigger than a newborn puppy, sounds nice for the size it is, and the menu is intuitve. It will make a nice little mp3 player for my desk. The FM radio portion (at least on mine) does not have very good channel descrimination - even with the antenna wire extended. But, the purpose I bought it was for the MP3 capability anyway, not the FM radio.

All in all, it is a fun little toy to bring up conversation and to promote WOOT!

When you load the MP3 into the unit, be sure to put them into the correct directory. Some MP3 players are sensitive about that.
