I’m interested to see such opposing reviews… it’s great, it’s awful … how’s a gal supposed to know who to believe?
Could the difference in opinion on the way it runs and eats the laptop’s resources be dependent on a) what type of processor you have and b) how much RAM memory you have?
Surely these things would make a HUGE difference to the way the thing operates?
also what makes a huge difference is what software you use
it works well with beyond tv but you need a decently powerful machine, and dont expect to get digital cable from your wall through it
Hmm… i have a question about this item… so you can watch TV on your laptop with it? what kind of channels do you get? do you just get basic TV? or do you get cable channels too… or am i way off on this thing lol

This thing rocks. I bought this last time is got wooted. Works great. The antenna it ships with is so/so. I hooked it up to an external HDTV antenna from showmecables.com and I was able to get all the HDTV programming in my area.

have the model of the one thats working for you? wana check it out…
i wanna buy this, but next yr all air TV is going to be tossed i thought, right? come to think of it, that means TV is no longer going to work for the little portable devices. that sux.

Of course. The OS is a memory hog, all the stupid little apps running in the background take up memory and then you have this thing. So the more juice the better. And don’t forget that you need a decen VGA card as well.

you can watch tv on your laptop
if you plug it into your cable you can watch analog channels, dont expect to watch digital channels with cable
you can get terrestrial digital AND analog
depending on your area, you can get terrestrial digital HD content for free

not true, they will discontinue ntsc but atsc will live on and this tuner supports it.

NOT true
terrestrial broadcasts right NOW are both digital and analog
all that happens next year is that there will no longer be analog terrestrial broadcasts, but digital 480/720/1080 terrestrial broadcasts will still be receivable with this device
Forget ORB…have you tried WebGuide4 yet? This works with MCE and I find the interface is more appealing. I can stream live or recorded content to my Moto Q.
So…is USB fast enough to support HD effectively? What if other I/O is happening on the bus? Does that affect it?
Seconded, WebGuide 4 is amazing. Must-have for anyone that runs MCE. Also, DVRMS Toolbox is another excellent add-on. Automatic commercial skipping; need I say more?
USB2 has a capacity of 480 Mbit. ATSC tops out at 19.39 Mbit.
Well, I’ve got Vista so I’m gonna give this a shot. It’s the only advantage I’ve found so far to having Vista. Also, I have a 32" HDTV that I can also hook up to my laptop and use as a monitor, so in theory, I should be able to hook this up to my computer, then hook the computer up to the TV, and watch whatever this will bring me on my 32". I hope this works!

Hm. I thought only analog signal will be killed. A friend told me that they are actually going to boost the ATSC signal and you’ll have even better signal. Thoughts anyone?

The only time I noticed lag for a video game console was when I tried to record. Otherwise it has been fine for me. I am considering buying another one. It would make a good gift sometime i assume

Not worth it. Pinnacle is crap. Their software is way bigger than it should have to be. ATSC doesn’t work in other programs. And everything needs serial numbers for no reason. One would think that when you need the physical device for the software to work you wouldn’t need a serial number printed on a cd sleeve to install the software.

right
only analog is going away
a lot of people assume terrestrial broadcasts are all analog and that means it will go away
not true! you will still be able to use an antenna to receive TV but need to have a digital tuner!
