I have a manual sprinkler controller now. Are the wires compatible? I live in Florida.
Yes. I have a 1st generation. I purchased a 2nf generation for my.parents. I hooked both of them up. Super easy. All the little wires in yours. Which are actuators for zones. Clip right in. I rate this 5 stars easily. The app is good. The weather intelligence is great. Easily one of the best purchases I have made. Mine is about 4 years old. Great updates. Saves water and money. Hope this helps.
I finally pulled the plug last summer on the 16 zone and changed out my OG dumb controller. I had actually made my old controller a bit smarter by putting in a smart relay on the ground wire, and having IFTTT toggle it based off the weather. It helped a lot and bought me a couple extra years. But wow, the Rachio was a game changer for all the reasons everyone talks about.
Can this be controlled without the app (on the main box) if needed?
After bidets, this is the second best WOOT ever! If you are still using an old “dumb” controller you absolutely need to get this.
Mine is a V1 that configured via the light on your phone… it was disturbingly fussy to initialize… and even with that hassle it was a life changin. The new models initialize in seconds.
I’ve wanted to upgrade to a newer model but my V1 world flawlessly for what must be almost 10 years!

The real strength in these is the amount of customization you can do for your watering programs. If you want to water a zone 10 times a day for 2 minutes( for new grass etc) you can. I have a V1 that runs a sprinkler pump from water tanks with only specific zones for specific days. When designing my system, Rachio was the only affordable controller i could find that would do the level of customization I needed.
Also its really nice to be able to check zones, heads etc with your phone while out in the yard.
